Vehicle Detail

I bought this '65 a few years ago in California (moved to Missouri since) with the intent of restoring it but have never had the time to do so. The car is from the San Jose plant and based on the black plates, appears to have never left the state until I moved it to Missouri. It's still registered non-op in California and still has the California title (in my name with a valid California address for me). Added videos of the car running/driving ** Sorry for the noise in the background on the videos. Lots of bugs out making noise Video: Mustang start and rev Video: Mustang drive The good parts-- The car has not been cut on or molested that I can see save some idiot hacking up the radio opening on the dash to install a DIN style radio at some point. I have a new dash repair kit to fix this that goes with the car. The floorpans appear to be 100% original (have the original sealant/paint on them and no signs of welding/cutting save where I've removed/POR-15'd to stop rust). The rockers appear to be rust free from from what I can see and the floor pans are in good shape overall considering the age. There's some rust along the seam where the pans meet the firewall (see pictures), a bit on the passenger rear pan and the worst on the driver's side rear pan. Overall it's very minor considering it's factory original. The joints where the seat boxes mount are in excellent shape with little to no rust. (See pictures). The trunk is in good shape and the gas tank appears to be much newer but factory correct. The engine sounds solid and doesn't smoke/etc. (check link to video of it running). Radiator is solid and appears original, water pump appears newer but looks like it needs a gasket. The car has the original "green dot" transmission which works and shifts fine. I don't know if it was ever overhauled but the fluid is clean. I've replaced a large number of gaskets and small parts on the car, cleaned quite a few things and otherwise tried to keep it in good shape. I've partially painted the floor pans and trunk with POR-15 since these pictures were taken a couple of weeks ago. I wanted to stop the rust from progressing any further in the Missouri humidity. All parts listed as new below were installed in the last couple of years and have less than 20 miles on them. The carb and intake are new Edelbrock units (#1404 carb and Performer #2121 intake) installed a couple of years ago (maybe 20 miles on them). Motor mounts are new and are the '66 style (easier to work with and required for some headers). The distributor is a new MSD E-Curve (top of the line) along with new plug wires and a new MSD coil. The fuel pump is new (NAPA if I recall). The exhaust is new from the heads all the way to the tips including new Flowmaster 50's, JBA H-Pipe and JBA mid-length headers. The headers have turned dark form the humidity in Missouri but are in excellent shape. The rear springs, shackles and bushings are all new and are a stiffer rate than stock + about 1" lower. It has all new wheels (17x8 Shelby Torq-Thrust M Anthracite w/ machined lip) and new tires (Kuhmo Ecsta MX 225/45-17). There's a very slow leak in the left front (takes a few weeks to leak down) that I haven't bothered to fix. Door locks are new although not all installed yet (new locks not installed go with car). Interior door panels are new, carpet is new, mirrors, etc. etc. The wiring harness to the rear of the car is new/correct factory style. I have a large number of new (in packaging where applicable) that go with the car. Virtually all are from NPD. The list of small parts that are new is long...please checkout the list below. The VIN and the one under the hood match. Don't know about the engine block but I suspect the tranny matches too since it's the "green dot" from that year. The speedo shows around 88,000 miles and it might just be the original mileage although the speedo wasn't working when I got the car. I took multiple pictures showing how honest this car is. As you can see, the floor pans have the original white paint (car was white from the factory) and while there's visible rust, it's nothing compared to most untouched cars. I did not do the spray can restoration so many cars on EBay/Craigs List have. If you've bought old cars before, you'll appreciate this. **Many of these pictures were taken a couple of weeks ago**. Since then, I've painted the rusty areas with POR-15 to prevent the Missouri humidity from making it any worse. I took the pictures before painting with POR-15 specifically to show I'm not hiding anything with the paint. Anyone can make a care look good in pictures with paint, but I'm trying to show this is an honest "survivor" car. If you want pictures of a specific area or more info, please ask, I'll be happy to take them or provide whatever info you'd like. The bad parts-- The hack job on the radio opening in the dash (see pictures). Again, I have the proper repair panel to fix this, just never installed it. The floor pans have some small perforations in specific areas. Please look at the pics.. considering they've never been touched, it's amazing they're this good. The heater box under the dash has been removed along with the controls. I do have what's left of the box and the controls including the blower motor, etc. that goes with the car. There's a strange rusted out spot at the top of the left A-pillar. I don't quite understand what this is from as there's no visible wrinkling of the roof looking from inside the car. I POR-15'd it a couple of years ago to stop it from getting any worse (which worked) and haven't had time to properly repair it. Please look at the pics... it's small and easy to repair. The last paint job appears to be a a cheapo special where they skim coated the entire car with a thin layer of filler and painted over it. You'll see were the paint has cracked in a couple of places. Looking at the inside of the body panels and roof, it appears it's never been in a signficant wreck. Someone pryed open the trunk (break in) before I bought the car and damaged both the truck lid and the area around the latch. It's repairable or the lid can be replaced for a couple hundred dollars. It does still close/latch smoothly. The windshield/rear glass gaskets have dried out and cracked over the years (which probably indicates they're the originals). I have new gaskets that go with the car along with most of the window felts, etc. for the side windows. See parts list. The passenger side interior door handle is not installed but there's a complete new/unused setup in the parts that go with the car. Just haven't had time to reinstall it after removing the old worn out one. There's no speedo cable installed BUT there's a new Autometer sending unit installed for an electric speedo. The kickdown linkage is partially converted to a '66 style but the cable that goes from the tranny to the throttle linkage isn't connected and the return spring isn't installed on the tranny. The right rear brake line is partially crushed and the brakes in general are shot. There's a NEW set of stainless brake lines for disc brake setup including the rubber line at the back axle and a NEW Wilwood polished aluminum tandem master cyclinder that go with the car. This car has the old single master cylinder that was banned in '68 by DOT if I recall so these parts are to convert to a new tandem MC system. The horn button goes with the car but isn't installed. Needs the spring that goes under it but the other mounting/horn button components are new (5 minute job once you have the spring). Backup lights are there but not connected that I can see. I was told by the previous owner that the person he bought it from said the engine was overhauled and the crank changed to make it a 302 but I have no way to verify this and don't know for sure. I also haven't checked to see if the block/heads are original but I believe they're at least the correct ones for that years. If you want to know, point me to what to check and I'll try to check. Most of the windshield trim is missing (only bottom trim which is new). There's probably more things that I can't remember but in general, they're the type of things that one would expect to find given the age of the car. I make no guarantees about anything on this as I simply don't know on many things on this car. Headliner is out of the car but I do have the bows and the headliner that was removed. Starter started disengaging prematurely when starting recently. Probably from sitting/lack of use but want to bring it up. A $500 deposit is due via PayPal within 24 hours with the balance due at pickup or drop off. Please don't play games with me on this-- I don't have the time or patience. I'm not a finance company and don't want to trade for anything. I will provide a bill of sale and the signed title and will need the release of liability form to send back to California DMV filled out from the buyer before turning over the car. For a "buy it now"-- I'm driving from near Springfield, MO, to New Orleans on the 17th and can drop off anywhere along that path (flatbed trailer) for $1/mile one-way from Springfield, MO. Otherwise I'll deliver for $1/mile one-way within 250 miles of Springfield, MO. I might be talked into as far as 500 miles if it's mostly freeway driving. If I deliver, it'll be on a trailer and deposit of twice the delivery charge (extra applied toward purchase price) will be required in addition to the $1000 above. If you want to check the car out first (or have it checked out), I'd be more than happy to let you take a look. We work from home and am here pretty much every day. Please email me if you'd like to inspect the car or have someone inspect the car. No test drives-- the brakes aren't good enough and it's registered non-op. However I could be talked into a run up and down the road.
