Vehicle Detail

1960 Bugeye Sprite Vintage Race Car Excellent, original Bugeye vintage racecar with documented history since the racecar conversion in the late 1970’s and early 1980’s. Raced throughout the 1980’s in the Midwest by Clancy Schmidt who constructed the car originally, and others from Kansas City to Colorado. It even has real open road race history (as opposed to just race track races). At the 2011 KIC vintage festival at Road America, Clancy was reunited behind the wheel with this, his first racecar, code named- SB1. Photos of the car being driven to the downtown Elkhart Lake concourse are included in the listing. I bought the car to reunite it with Clancy (a long time friend) and to give it a second life. The reunion complete and the first phase of restoration complete, it is time for the car to find a new home and start its second career in vintage. In 2010, the car went through a loving mechanical restoration by Clancy Schmidt, who authenticated the car and explained each modification in detail. The body remains in “better than period correct” condition showing some patina, but not reflective of the true age of the car. The car is sold in vintage race capable condition prepared by Clancy Schmidt. The car has been stored inside, in a climate-controlled garage throughout the 1990’s. Since I bought the car from that garage: · All the hydraulic cylinders and brakes (front disc and rear drum) have all been rebuilt/replaced · The front rotors and all pads are new. · The cooling system has been returned to correct Sprite race specification with a new water pump, all new hoses and a racing radiator and oil cooler added · All new fluids have been replaced and updated in the engine, trans, and diff · It has a straight-cut, ribbed cage transmission · The car has been totally rewired · There is a new fuel cell and fuel pump · The interior has been upgraded and new mirrors added · The car comes with a 948cc engine core and a 1098cc in the car running strong with a mild cam and 60 psi of oil pressure · It has returned to the track, finishing 7th in class at the highly competitive KIC in July 2011 Mechanically it is in very good condition and capable of being driven as-is or finished to the highest concourse standard by the next owner. 2 boxes of spares, an RMVR log book, a Kansas title and the 948 cc core are included. The car is presently a track only car. The SB-1 is home located in Lawrence, Kansas
