Vehicle Detail

I am making room for a 1970 Gold Boss 302 I just purchased just like the one (my first car) I had in 1978, so I am selling this original 1970 Cougar Eliminator--plus I fell in love with a Grabber Green Eliminator. According to Marti’s book “Cougar By The Numbers”, this is the only Grabber Blue with Deluxe Ginger interior Cougar made in 1970 which was this Eliminator—a true 1 of a kind Cougar. I have a Marti report proving this Cat’s pedigree. This Cougar has original quarters. I replaced the rusty driver floor board. This Cougar has nice original glass. This Eliminator was born a 4-speed, power steering, deluxe interior, 351 C 4V and factory air. I installed factory original power disc brakes just like the factory did. I bought this car in Richmond VA about 8 years ago. It was sitting for years with the VIN'd toploader trans in the trunk. It has a 1969 351W in it now--that's how I got it and that motor was good so I left it in the car. I have the original 351C for it and include it in this sale. I went through this car pretty good 3 years ago: new front suspension including upper/lower control arms, all new brakes including lines with factory front discs added, rebuilt trans (but it pops out of 3rd gear occasionally), rebuilt 9 inch traction-lok rear including outer bearings with 3.91 gears, rebuilt steering box, rebuilt PS control valve/boom, new shocks, rebuilt AC/heater box, new timing chain, new headliner, new tires, I added style steel wheels, new 3-row radiator/fan shroud, new clutch fan, new original looking/sounding aluminumized dual exhaust, new clutch, new carpet, new battery tray and inner panel, rebuilt disc brake pedal assembly, new gas tank and new water/gas pumps. It runs and shifts perfectly....no smoke except from the rear tires. I have driven this car a lot the last 2 years---drives great and is a blast to drive quickly! With the factory rear sway bar, this Cougar is Cat-Nimble and corners with little body lean. The 1970 Eliminators drive well. They always feel under control even on bumps, and they are sprung low. Motor is strong and super quiet with no clatter. No exhaust or fluid leaks. Great oil pressure. I replaced the driver long floor board. Frame rails/torque boxes are solid. Trunk floors are good. Rear window trim (window removed for headliner install) is in trunk, but I installed new window trim clips. I include with this Eliminator: the original 351C engine (intake to pan), extra good front original seats I bought, a pair of nice original door panels, a good driver door shell (my Mom's neighbor hit the driver door one day and ran inside his house), a rust free hood and a rust free deck lid (you are going to need these). Quarters are solid with only minor rust (see photos). This Eliminator needs paint badly. It will need some body work too. I removed all the surface rust properly last year and just brushed on automotive primer and enamel paint to protect it for later repaint. It has a newish 750 dual feed double pumper Holley carb. I installed a manual choke. The 351W has a mild grumpy cam and Edelbrock intake I put on. Motor revs extremely smoothly and idles well—but with a mild cam lope I just love. Starts easy hot or cold. At street lights the grumpy cam and exhaust note call out: don’t mess with me jack! I installed original 351W exhaust manifolds. The new gas gauge I installed stopped working. The tachometer and speedo work sometimes. AC/heater blower motor is noisy (that can be changed easily). The cowl has some repairs after I POR 15’d it inside and out---it does not leak. Lights all work, but right dash blinker light is faintly on always when lights are “on”. Rear blinkers lights work. The vacuum headlight switch hisses when “on”. This is a solid, rare 4-speed Eliminator that needs cosmetics. It's ready to drive anywhere....Call to come see. Rick (301) 779-0114
