Vehicle Detail

Complete frame off restored 1967 Honda CL77 Scrambler 305. I purchased this bike from the widow of the second owner. It had been sitting for many years in their shed in Michigan. She was selling her property and needed to get rid of the bike. When I got the bike I started a frame off mostly nut and bolt restoration. Below is an overview of just about everything I have done. I have receipts for all of it and they total up to a significant amount of money. The reserve is low. The bike is going to sell and someone is going to get a great bike. Frame Number: CL771050306 Engine Number: CL77E-1046770 The bike has 9377 miles on it. It may have a few more miles on it by the time the auction ends. A classic motorcycle group is meeting up in town and I may go. I may not though. The motor on this bike was rebuilt at 9329 miles and a new clutch was also installed. This was not done out of necessity. It was done to insure a strong running bike and the cylinder was very slightly bored out to make sure it was a clean powerful running engine. This was done by the previous owner before I started the restoration and I have receipts for the engine rebuild and clutch performed by a professional motorcycle dealer in Michigan When I got this scrambler, I took it completely apart. Motor off the frame and checked everything. I painted the cases and fork tubes and side stand with hi temp VHT aluminum paint. New gaskets for the cases including the gear shift gasket. I powder coated all of the following items. Frame and swing arm, motor mount brackets, headlight bucket, center stand, tool box, chain guard, fork ears and rear tail light bracket. I re-chromed the following items. Handle bars, exhaust system, grab rail, and front fender stay. The only chrome items that were not redone are the rims, the headlight trim ring and the small steering lock cover on the triple tree. These are in fine condition. The rims are perfectly straight with no dents but they don’t look brand new like everything else. I have replaced many parts on the bike new with OEM parts. It has new OEM grips, rebuilt carbs with new floats, new air cleaners, air cleaner tubes and air cleaner bands, new foot peg rubbers, new factory sprockets front and rear, new chain, new rear shocks, fresh fork oil perfectly measured, extra keys, brand new Dunlop Vintage tires front and rear, new battery, new battery strap, new spark plugs, new side cover rubbers, some new wiring, new OEM hand levers, new cables for the hand brake and clutch, new foot brake lever (old one wasn’t shiny), new seat rubber and so much more I can’t even think of it all, but I have receipts. On a side note the carbs are jetted for altitude but the new sea level jets will be included in the sale. The bike was professionally painted and I have over $800 in paint work alone on the tank, fenders and side covers. I personally took the tank off and cleaned the inside of it with Rusteco and it came out great. No crummy liner in the tank. I rebuilt the petcock with new OEM parts. New Gas lines and fuel line clips, new fuel tank cushions and a brand new factory OEM gas cap and gasket. I purchased ($100) replica gold leaf badges for the tank. It does have a new factory tool bag and the Honda tools but I am not sure if they are all there. See picture This bike is in incredible shape from top to bottom. Runs as good as it looks and it is almost 100% original. It starts on the first or second kick. For the purist here is what is not stock. The air cleaners which you can’t see because they are hidden behind the side covers are factory replicas from Tim McDowell’s Classic Honda Restoration. New OEM filters can be purchased but I didn’t find them until after I purchased these. Ohio Cycle has the originals. The replicas do however fit perfect. The chain guard is also a factory replica and is new and was powder coated black to match the frame. This chain guard resembles the earlier 1965 version scrambler. Looks great, fits perfect, but is not the correct style for the bike. You can buy an original chain guard on E-bay for around $100 to $250 and then have it powder coated if that is important to you. The bike also comes with new side mirrors that are not factory original. As a side note, the horn doesn’t sound off as it should. It responds with a crackling noise when the switch is pressed but it doesn’t let out a steady blow. This would need to be adjusted or replaced. I never got around to getting a new one and the only other thing I would do to it is polish the hubs and wheels. Other than that it’s ready to ride and enjoy. Outside of the small items I mentioned the bike is original. The seat was recovered to match the factory original as close as possible. You can see the seat trim was kept and everything came out nice including the seat strap. Why am I selling this? My primary reason is that I have some items on my wish list for my vintage Porsche 911. I’m sure I will kick myself in the future for selling this bike. They are out there for purchase but not many of them will have the time and energy into them that this bike has seen. More than half of the nuts and bolts on this bike have been replaced as new. Many of them are OEM. All the seat and exhaust hardware, steering stem bolts etc. Not because they needed to be but because I wanted everything to look new. It was in really nice shape when I got it. This was not a beat up bike when I first brought it home. I have original pictures of the bike if you would like to see them. Clean Colorado title in my name. This is certainly one of the cleaner 1967 Honda CL77’s you will see out in the market for sale. This is a nostalgic ride and it doesn’t look like other bikes which in my opinion is great. Ride it. Don’t hide it. All shipping costs will be paid by the buyer. I can assist with meeting them or even dropping the bike off at a terminal. This is an “as is” sale but with everything that has been done, I don’t expect you to have issues. Good luck bidding and please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or need additional pictures. I can be contacted via e-mail or you can call me (Justin) on my cell at 303-246-0003. Thanks for looking and have a great day.
