Vehicle Detail

Up for bids here is an antique 1971 Mercedes 280 SE. This is a great project car and candidate for restoration. Let's start with the engine. The odometer reads 53,388 miles but it is important to note that the odometer does not work and it is not know how long it has not been working so I cannot even make an accurate estimate as to the actual mileage. The car does start, run and drive and has the inspection sticker on it is only recently expired (Jan '11). The engine runs a little rough and probably needs a good tune up. The transmission does shift but when you shift it into gear there is a slight delay to when the transmission actually kicks in gear. This car is not leaking any fluids, which is a good thing with a car of this age. From the mid-section of the car all the way back is a brand new exhaust, which has a new muffler and new resonator. In regards to the interior, there a few minor issues. The interior could use a good cleaning. The seats do have some small tears in them but just a few. The dashboard is made of beautiful wood and it has it's original radio with the large push button channel settings. There is no rug in the interior and the metal floor is exposed, as the floor plates have been completely replaced. The windows at one point were not staying up so the door panels were removed and the windows were braced with wood, so as of right now the windows are not able to go down, unless you remove that wood. Now, on to the body. The pictures tell a bigger story than I ever could. There is considerable rot on this car. The passenger side under the doors, as seen from the photo is mostly rotted off. There is rot on the inside floor of the trunk as well. Just about all of the original chrome is still on the car and in great condition. The original hubcaps are still on the car as well. The lock to the trunk does stick but the trunk does open. This car is a good candidate for restoration and has a lot of potential for someone with the time and expertise. Please look at my feedback record and bid with confidence. Please ask any and all questions prior to bidding. This car is being sold AS IS. I cannot stress how important it is to ask any questions you may have. I have given all of the information that is available on this car to me. The buyer is responsible for picking the car up. Upon receiving a cleared payment the signed registration will be mailed to the winning bidder. Please note since this car is from 1971 there is NO TITLE. Titles were not used in 1971. Proof of ownership for the car for DMV purposes is a signed registration transfer card. Although this car does run and drive, because it needs a tune up I recommend that this car be towed or put on a flatbed. Thanks for looking!
