Vehicle Detail
Up for bid is my 1971 Cutlass Supreme Convertible. It has been refurbished inside and out with many new features, but a few minor tasks still left to complete. A divorce and a loss of storage are forcing the sale. Let me describe it to you. Engine: Original 350 Rocket. It has a professionally rebuilt original Quadrajet carburetor. The distributor has been upgraded to a fully modern HEI unit with integrated coil. The alternator is a modern 100 AMP and charges the red top Optima battery perfectly. The engine sensors and external components have been replaced (fuel pump, oil pump, water pump). The aluminum radiator is new. The idea is to make sure the car would start and run at any time with modern reliability. The car appears stock and does not have that “shade tree mechanic tricked out” look. There are no ‘go fast’ parts installed and the internals are bone stock. The original transmission shifts and runs fine. Interior: The interior is black with new upholstery on the front buckets and rear bench. No cracks in the dash and the wood inlay is intact and in nice shape. The carpeting is new. The console looks good, but there is a piece missing in the rear of it where a passenger kicked it accidently. The door panels are good quality. It is nice driver quality interior and is presentable and clean. Top: The car has no top installed. The front header bow (the front bow that touches the windshield) should be replaced. The mechanism and folding pieces are in good condition and require no work. The top is power. The top with a glass window and associated hardware and cables is 350 for nice quality. I have no plans to install a top at this point. 1500 is a good and safe estimate for a perfectly new and operational top installed by a professional. Body: The frame is very nice with no faults. The body is in good shape with only minor filler to level out a few areas. This is no Bondo Buggy! There are no surprises under the paint, but an accomplished body/paint person could add thousands to the car’s value in a few short hours. The paint is driver/amateur quality and is a brilliant emerald green. It would look incredible with a professional wet sand and buff, but you would be very proud to drive the car as is. The rear bumper is new. The front bumper is original in very good condition. The windshield is new. Lenses are clear intact. All weatherstripping is new and the doors sound great when you close them. The car has single exhaust. The car sits on Oldsmobile Rally wheels and the tires have 60% tread left. The car is stunning to see at any distance! Aside from the top, the car needs: - The fuel gauge is not reading correctly. - Needs sunvisors. - Needs two tiny chrome pieces at the edge of the trunk. - Missing the door lock knob on the driver’s side. - Heater fan does not turn on. I adore this car and have worked on it for some time. It was my therapy going thru the divorce, but with a teen starting college and a move to a townhome…well, now seems like the time. My modest reserve is many thousands below comparable Cutlasses I’ve seen. This car is easily worth 12-14 grand with a top installed and a professional buff, but I can no longer invest in it. You get a car you can drive across the country but with just enough needs that you really get that feeling of accomplishment to make it perfect! The car is available for inspection after 5:00 weekdays in Columbus, Ohio. I reserve the right to end the auction early for a cash buyer. I will assist in any way possible with shipping from the Columbus, Ohio metro area. BUT BE AWARE…the car has no top and is open to the elements if it is transported any measurable distance. Good luck and have a great day. On Aug-01-11 at 15:54:48 PDT, seller added the following information: UPDATE: NEW PICTURES ADDED. I had a request for outer frame rails and inner wheel wells in the rear. I did the best I could to wiggle my camera in there. They are solid and the undercoating was very original to the car. The first owner was hell-bent on not having the frame or wheel wells rust out! Also, there was a request for the front spindles. I did the best I could as I do not have a floor jack, so the wheels are on the car in the pics.
