My "baby bimmer" has been completely reliable for me since I purchased her in 2001, with 30,000 miles. She has had one previous owner and I purchased her as a certified pre-owned vehicle from JMK BMW in Springfield, NJ. I have cared for her very well and have all maintenance records to prove it. I also have all of her other paperwork, such as window sticker from when I bought her pre-owned as well as owner's manual and such. She does need some repairs, such as the driver's side window regulator/guide has recently broken and the window does not go all the way up (very common BMW issue and she is kept in my garage), antenna needs to be replaced, there is a crack in the encasing of the dash which holds the tape player/a/c heat controls, there are dings in the paint on her hood and some peeling by the driver's side headlight, the cloth interior is fading and there is a tear in the upholstery on the driver's side seat which I have covered with seat covers and her hood does not stay up on its own anymore- I prop it open with a plank of wood which serves its purpose just fine. I installed an Alpine system 6 CD changer when I purchased her and am leaving it in the car. Original clutch. Newer muffler. If I had the time and skills to refurbish her, I would absolutely keep her, but right now that is not feasible and I know an avid BMW fan/collector can enjoy her as much as I did, as she drives so smoothly and puts my Japanese car to shame.
