1956 Mercury Medalist 2 Door Low Rider No Reserve Car needs to be restored and I wanted to do it ....but upcoming marriage is changing my plans. This cars engine (292) was apparently rebuilt before I bought it. Also rebuilt were the transmission, front end, and powerful new brake system that could stop a train! ! I have owned the car for only two months and would love to keep it but do not have the space as I am moving. The car is unique and rare. It needs body work and carpet. My plan was keeping it as a rat rod and leave it without the carpet. In the months I have owned it include putting on a new dual exhaust, a new holly 4 bbl 600 cfm carb, a new ignition coil, new spark plugs, new fuel and air fliters, and four brand new tires with portawall wide white wall inserts. The car has door handles shaved and has a remote trunk opener button located in the glove compartment. The car runs ok but shuts off after running a few minutes, needs to be tuned up. the timing may be off or the carb may need to be adjusted. Their is a tapping in the engine that is apparently because of the solid lifters (need adjusting?) . I am not a mechanic and really dont know. The car has some significant rust on the lower body like on rear quarters and lower door panels, however the yellow flame paint stills shines. Engine compartment very clean, ..this car needs restoration but personally I like it looking like the bad boy rat rod this car is. The car is lowered in the back.The interior has had new sheet metal for its floor pans. the seats are in decent shape and interior seem all the there. Has aftermarket oil pressure guage, gas guage and temp guages that work. Wipers do not work, lights do work, horn works. It does not leak oil that I see. I feel while it has a new exhaust it may new exhaust manifold gaskets. Front and rear windshields are good however the driver wing window along with drivers and passenger window have been cracked. Its a nice car that should go to someone that can give her more attention, my time and unfortunately mechanic abilities are limited. . Car is As Is. Very good upside potential. Clear NJ Title.
