Vehicle Detail

THIS IS A NO RESERVE AUCTION, whatever the auction ends at it goes for. I've never copied and pasted a review before but I like the author of this review article from edmunds on the 2001 Pathfinder LE, it reflects exactly how I feel about. I will get into all the details of this clean technician/detailer owned gem after the intro review. Please read, research, and ask any questions you might have before placing a bid. The most important thing is that you get a complete picture and full knowledge of your purchase, and to save you from having click on any other links here you go. This one is completely loaded minus the entertainment system, and has the optional rear LSD differential (does amazing in the snow as do the heated seats). What's New for 2001 A long overdue 250-horsepower V6 engine debuts for 2001, making Pathfinder the most powerful SUV in its class. An interior freshening and more standard goodies, as well as snazzy options like an in-dash navigation system and an entertainment system for rear-seat occupants, are new for 2001. Also added to the LE's options list this fall is the handy All-mode automatic 4WD system from the Infiniti QX4. Review Nissan's hardy Pathfinder has always been our vehicle of choice for seeking a new path to the premium outlet center. Though the exterior may exude that tough-guy outdoorsy image, the interior has always been comfortable enough for the dilettante woodsman who doesn't like to get his nails too dirty. Though the old 3.3-liter V6 engine provided acceptable levels of low-end grunt, the coarsely produced 170 horsepower it made was meager when stacked against newer competitors. So revel, all you who seek liberation from urban ennui -- the Pathfinder is finally energized by a stouter V6, based on the Maxima sedan's stellar powerplant. When mated to a five-speed manual transmission, the 3.5-liter DOHC V6 engine produces a mighty 250 horsepower and 240 foot-pounds of torque. Matching it to an automatic tranny will usurp 10 ponies but add 25 foot-pounds of twist, still ample power to haul plenty of equipment and go mountain climbing, as well as merge onto freeways without fear. The Pathfinder comes with rear-wheel or part-time four-wheel drive, the latter of which provides a shift-on-the-fly transfer case that can be engaged at speeds up to 50 mph. On LE models, an automatic All-Mode four-wheel-drive system can be specified for 2001, giving you one more reason to skip paying the extra tariff the Infiniti QX4 commands. All-Mode operates in 2WD, automatic 4WD, 4WD-Hi and 4WD-Lo, all selected using a simple rotary knob on the dashboard. We've long admired the Pathfinder for its excellent ride and handling, further enhanced by solid unibody construction. The interior, one of the friendliest of any SUV on the market, is spruced up for 2001 with an updated instrument panel. A new dual level center console with a padded armrest and 12-volt power source will organize all your gewgaws. You can choose from three trim levels -- the XE, which comes with standard power windows, mirrors and locks, and a security system for the 2001 model year; the sporty SE, which gives you a choice of automatic or manual transmission along with sporty trim; and the top-of-the-line LE, which includes foglights, Bose audio system and fake wood accents. All models come standard with 16-inch wheels, full-size spare tire, a CD player and ABS. Side airbags can be ordered as long as they are contained in leather-wrapped seating, which is available only on the SE and LE. Those same models, when power is transferred to the drive wheels via an automatic transmission, can be equipped with a mobile entertainment system, which includes a 6.4-inch flip-down LCD screen, video player and ports to plug and play a PlayStation 2. A "Birdview" navigation system, shared with the Infiniti QX4, is also available, but we don't recommend it. While the "Birdview" perspective is interesting, teensy, tiny, little, itty-bitty buttons control the thing, along with some of the climate control functions. Get a map. Items that remain static from last year include a substantial maximum cargo carrying capacity of 85 cubic feet (surprising for what appears to be a relatively small vehicle). Some of this space, in our humble opinion, should have been used to alleviate the still-cramped rear accommodations. Despite a few quibbles, we're thrilled that Nissan finally rectified the Pathfinder's main problem: horsepower. Now back to this one____________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Interior: This vehicle is primarily my girlfriend's car. Lucky for this pathfinder she happens to be a professional detailer at the local Nissan dealer, so it gets detailed weekly and I am not allowed to leave a scrap of trash in it. The leather is so well taken care of that you can gauge its quality by watching how fast your items in the rear seat slide from side to side around corners haha. It is about as close to new as any daily driven 2001 Pathfinder is going to get. There are zero cracks or tears in any of the leather anywhere in the car. Same with stains, it feels, looks, and smells new. Everything works, all of the lights, gauges, power seats, power windows, power mirrors, heated seats, sunroof, power door locks, steering wheel controls, and the cruise control. The cd changer has its days and usually doesn't work, but everyone has gone to ipod's and other mp3 devices. That is all she ever uses to the cd changer never gets used anyways. The headliner has a couple mm wide spots in the front that I have no clue where they came from, but other than that is perfect. The A/C blows ice cold and is fully automatic, the heat blows hot, and the heated seats have spoiled me in the winters. It has memory power seats that are great for multiple drivers in the same house. The center console and cupholders have alot of room for all of your phones etc... Plus it has the optional side airbags which are a must in any serious accident. There is plenty of cargo space if you fold down the rear seats and it has all of the factory tools with jack. It has a great sound system and is nothing but comfortable to drive. Exterior: Once again, the primary driver here is a professional detailer at a Nissan dealer hah. If you've ever wanted a hood slick enough to slide across like a 70's police officer here you go, I just hope you're tall hah. It has never been in any wrecks whatsoever, the body and paint is all original except for one corner of the rear bumper. It was accidentally bumped into by a riding lawn mower while cutting the grass. That paint was touched up, and it did have a couple hail dents on the roof that were repaired professionally at great expense to Allstate. This is a daily driver, so it has a few nicks here and there on the bumpers but no significant damage. The paint really shines and the color is great for hiding the dirt, I could get away with washing it once a month but my gf washes and waxes it every week. All the windows have the factory tint and the tires are just one size bigger which I think really improves the look. It does have the towing package, and believe me it has enough power to tow (but we'll get into that in the mechanical section). All of the wipers are new and work great. The roof rack has some paint coating coming off which is common but it is all there if you need to haul a christmas tree or something. All of the exterior lights are good, the fog lights are a big help around corners at night. It does have one small dent on the drivers door where it had a shopping cart accident but i'm pretty sure that is the only dent on it. From 5 feet away unless you're a Falcon you aren't going to see any defects, and the 24 pictures reflect that. Mechanical: This is where any Japanese vehicle shines and basically every American SUV drowns. Ever look at the resale of an Explorer or Grand Cherokee vs. what they were new? Horrible depreciation, and this category is why. It's not because the paint fades quickly, or the leather falls apart, it is because the American SUV's break constantly and cost alot to own. I know this makes me sound like a terrorist or something but it is the truth, our country does alot of things great, and our automotive industry is improving after they all went broke, but back in 2001 they were garbage. But not this one, here we have a true 100% built in Japan vehicle. The best part about Japanese SUV's is that all you have to do is keep up with the oil changes and drive them. These have a new gen silent timing chain so there is no expensive timing belt changes to worry about. You never worry if you're getting to work or not and they are so cheap to own due to the low cost of maintenance. The VQ35-DE all aluminum DOHC V6 was originally designed for the 350Z and a derivation of it is now used in the skyline GT-R. This engine is TOUGH and very powerful for the gas mileage you get. It does about 16mpg around town and 21mpg on the interstate which is much better than most other SUV's in 2001. It has 240hp and 275ft-lbs of tq which is strong for that year in a V6, it can tow 5,000lbs. There are zero leaks anywhere on this pathfinder, it never smokes one puff of anything no matter the temperature. It has very strong oil pressure and never gets above half on the temp gauge even when towing with the A/C on. Only the LE model has the All-Mode 4WD transfer case from the Infiniti QX4, and let me tell you it is the smoothest shifting transfer case i've ever had. It has 2wd, Full-Time 4wd, Part-time hi, and Part-time low. Any gear but low you can shift on the fly up to 50mph. It also has a very strong full floater 9.25" rear end with optional limited slip differential which is a fairly rare option. Here is a quick list of the maintenance i've done (i'm an ASE master tech) since we've had it (i'm also a big believer in preventitive maintenance but I probably didn't have to do all this to it). The only thing I would suggest in the near future is some new shocks, the stock ones are worn out. Nothing that would stop you from driving to cali and back but for the comfort of your butt you should probably get them done (only a couple hundred bucks). There is also zero rust anywhere. The ash-tray cover is missing, it is about a $5 part at the junkyard. Brand new Capital A/T tires one size bigger than stock (no rubbing or noise, just better ground clearance and looks) Machined front brake rotors Transmission flush along with the transfer-case because they share fluids Valvoline oil changes every 3k miles Coolant flush last week New battery w/2 year warranty New serpentine belt 4 wheel laser alignment on nice hunter machine Rear diff fluid with LSD additive That's about it, nothing has ever broken on it mechanically. I don't even want to sell it but my girlfriend just HAS to have a Jeep Wrangler because the top folds down and she can look all cute. No matter how many times I tell her that she is taking the reliability of this Nissan for granted and is going to end up hating the Wrangler she won't listen, you all know how those arguments go. So I offer to someone much wiser than her this very reliable, great condition Nissan Pathfinder. May you appreciate it more than she did. If you have any questions or would like to test drive it before bidding please don't hesitate to give me a call at 828-458-0244. Thanks for looking and good luck bidding!
