Vehicle Detail
As the title states, this is a turbo Coupe GT. If you know these cars you know that there were no turbo Coupe GT's from the factory. This car is not a quattro, it is front wheel drive, but has a turbo engine from an Audi 5000 turbo. Also important: MOTOR IS PARTIALLY DISASSEMBLED. Still reading? Alright, let's get to it. Engine: The engine (code KH) was donated by an 84 5k turbo with about 150k on it. I've put maybe 20k on it since the conversion. The engine was running well until I blew the head gasket. It has an 034 stage 1B (034motorsport.com) in it, mounted behind the glovebox. The conversion was not a hack job. Whenever I could I tried to make any modifications as bullet-proof and factory-esqe as possible. No sheet metal was cut to install the engine, it was put in properly from below. Current intercooler is of the Ur-quattro variety, mounted low on the passenger side. I've got a wide band, and a narrow band oxygen sensor installed. The TPS is from a Taurus SHO. Last (and only) trip to the dyno showed max hp 186, max torque 205. I'll include this printout with everything else. Fuel pressure regulator is Marren, turbo blow-off valve is Turbo XS. The body: The body is straight, but with a few mods. Shortly after buying I had the little lights on the front fenders, the dumb little reflectors below the taillights, and the antenna removed, and the holes filled. Added a Fuba antenna in the process. Around that time someone broke into it and stole the remote for the CD player (WTF?) using a screwdriver on the passenger door, which prompted the Armor Door Plates. I pretty much forgot about that until I moved to Colorado and the damage from it started to appear in the form of surface rust (you can see it in the pics). Thank you, Mag Chloride. The headlights are Urquat, wired correctly with relays. They are correct for the year, not the sloped headlight lenses of the later cars. Turn signals came out of the bumper and fog lights got put in, along with some paint along the bottom to hopefully update the look. Also, I added a hood vent/scoop? from a Nissan turbo Z on the passenger side. The idea was to try to keep the car from vapor locking back when it still had the factory engine management on the turbo engine. It helped not at all, but it looks cool. And as you can see I modified the air dam a little to allow more air into the Ur intercooler, and into the radiator. I made an aluminum panel that goes below the radiator where the stock cardboard piece of crap goes and mounted the oil cooler on it, so the cooler sits just ahead and at the bottom of the radiator. As you may be able to see the paint is in need of some attention. It seems to be a "feature" of the L90E paint that it requires a yearly polish to get the dirt out of it. This car will shine up nicely with a good buff and wax. The driver's door though probably needs a re-spray, the clearcoat is coming off below the window opening. Suspension/brakes: The brakes are stock with the exception of braided brake lines. I have a pair of rear disks and an e-brake cable that I was going to use for the rear disk brake conversion that I never got around to. These go with the car. The wheels are Rota that I got a few years ago. They are in excellent shape and don't have many miles on them. No curb rash, no bends. Front tires are Falken 451's with few miles, but they are a few years old. Back tires hold air. Control arm bushings are polyurethane from Intended Acceleration. Springs are H&R, shocks are orange Koni adjustable rebound. It has a rear sway bar that was very difficult to find 12 years ago, probably impossible now. I don't know who made it, or what diameter it is. It started damaging the body at the ends where it mounts a few years ago, so I had the floor reinforced by Champagne Motors in Denver. It won't be a problem again. The front sway bar is from a quattro 4k. It also has the special 2B right side bent tie rod to clear the wastegate assembly. As far as I know the suspension is in good shape, no rattling strut bearings or ball joints that need replacement. Interior: I swapped out the stock brown dash with a newer, black dash out of an 85. The seats are Jamex, in very good condition, but they are a little sun-faded. Four point belts are Schroth, and the driver's side has an inertia reel and G-sensor, so you can actually lean forward like the stock seatbelts and mess with the stereo or unlock the passenger door as long as you aren't doing any "extreme" maneuvers. I re-covered the rear seats to match the front as well as I could. Basically, the back seat is black velour. The sound system in this car sounds really good. There is a 12" sub in the back in a sealed box with a Lanzar amp. The speaker in the front are Bostwick mids, Peerless tweeters in the dash, and Polk 5" co-axials in the back shelf. The Polk's run on the head unit. All it needs is a 4 channel amp to run the fronts. As you can see in the pics I also added an auxiliary panel next to the main instrument cluster for the boost and narrow band oxygen sensor. The wide band sensor came later, and I didn't get around to properly mounting that. And there's a nifty map light I mounted to the side of the center console. The transmission is stock. I broke the original transmission when it had about 145K on it and replaced it with a factory rebuild, which has run Redline since I put it in. Chassis now has 211k on it. In addition to the car the buyer will also get a wealth(?) of spare parts, a list of which will illustrate my pack-rat/hoarding tendencies regarding this car, as well as my disdain for stepping foot inside a Stealership. 1 old Compaq laptop computer running Windows 2k and 034 software for tuning the beast. Bentley manual. 2 new timing belts. 3 CIS and CIS-E fuel distributors and airbox tops, as well as one airbox bottom. 2 bumper endcaps. Lots of various hoses, some new, some used. Handy for fabricating up custom plumbing under the hood. 2 radiator fans/motors, used. 1 aftermarket radiator in good shape. 1 Water cooled K26 turbo with tight bearings. I was going to convert, but never got to it. 1 MC oil cooler flange. Got tired of changing 2 oil filters, and figured I would change the flange with the turbo. 2 used coolant tanks. 3 door mirror assemblies. 2 lightly used motor mounts. 1 cruise control brain, 1 cruise vacuum pump. Lots of window, hazard, defroster, headlight spare switches. Some spare dashboard/interior parts (shift boots, dash trim etc) 2 spare instrument clusters. 1 brand new timing belt tensioner pulley. 1 new, 2 used clutch cables. 2 new German oil filters. At least 3 sets of spark plug wires. 2 (maybe more) used ignition distributors. Need some spare alternators? I've got 3 of them. I clearly didn't realize that I had so many spares. How 'bout some starters? I've got 3. 2 used power steering pumps. Bag of SAAB parts needed for the Jim Green knock sensor setup, acquired from the man himself. Cat converter that was once on the car with 2 3/8" in/out. 2 gawdawful ugly 14" alloy wheels with good snow tires. A couple of fuse boxes, with a bunch of relays. A box full of wiring harnesses and the original 84 turbo 5k engine ECU. 4 axles, 2 front, 2 rear in good shape from when I parted out my QSW. Fronts will work on this car. 1 brand new 3 wire O2 sensor. 1 slightly used pressure plate/disk/throwout bearing kit. Installed in my QSW just before it was totalled. Will work in this car, although the clutch in the car now still has many miles left in it. And now the bad: Apparently I had too much spark advance in #5 and I blew the head gasket. Coolant got into the cylinder, and now it's a little rusty. I pulled the head, took it to the machine shop, got a valve grind, new guides, new valve seals, and then just ran out of interest/time. The head is still in the plastic bag from the machine shop. I'll re-install the cam and lifters before the car gets picked up, unless the buyer doesn't want me to. Please feel free to email and ask questions. Please don't ask me if you can drive it home, or how well it runs, because THE ENGINE IS PARTIALLY DISASSEMBLED. Buyer is responsible for picking the car up after auction. I will assist, but pickup or shipping is the responsibility of the buyer. If the car hasn't been picked up two weeks after auction ends, then I will re-list the car for sale. If you are an out of state buyer and aren't able to arrange transportation within that time, I will help find a place locally it can be stored until transport is arranged. I want this car to go to a good home. The operative words here being go to.
