Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is a 1946 Packard Custom Super Clipper. This car comes with a clean Kansas title and would make a great project, or would be an excellent source of parts if you're restoring another Clipper. Custom Super Clipper projects don't come up for sale all that often, so seize the moment...here's your chance to buy one! Overall, this Custom Super Clipper is very complete. It has what I believe to be its original 356 straight 8, as well as the original manual transmission equipped with electromatic clutch and OD. The interior is mostly complete, including all dash gauges and trim, door handles/window cranks and related door trim, etc. The exterior trim is also mostly complete, with the exception of the rocker panel trim, and a few 'whiskers' on the front fenders. Also missing is the data plate that usually would be attached to the top of the firewall. The Body: Big picture, the body of this Clipper is very restorable. The hood, trunk, and doors are all solid, as are the fenders. But, as with many cars of this vintage, it does have some rust. It will likely need new rocker panels, a patch in the front left floor board, and some work in the rear trunk area (most notably the trunk lip). The Engine: After a small amount of work (draining the gas tank, rebuilding the fuel pump, cleaning up the carburetor, adding a fuel filter, and buying a new 6V battery), I was able to get the engine running (the last time it was running was approx. 6 months ago). It will need to be rebuilt, but the key point is that it is not seized. Please note: the block has a crack just below the head that will require pins (see picture below). While I have had the engine running in the past, this is a non-driveable project. I do not know the condition of the clutch/transmission, and the brakes are non-functional...so this Packard will have to be trailered home. I realize that buying a car off Ebay can be challenging (especially if you can't see it in person), so I have put up quite a few pictures of the car in this listing. I tried my best to give a crystal clear representation of this car through these pictures. So please look through them carefully, and ask any questions you may have prior to bidding. I'm happy to answer any questions about the car, as well as show the car in person to any interested party. Now for the riveting legal disclaimer... This car is being sold as a restoration project, and therefore is being sold as-is/where-is without any kind of warranty expressed or implied. I will require a $500 deposit within 3 days of the auction ending, with the remaining balance paid within 7 days of the auction ending. The car will also have to be picked up/removed within 7 days of the auction ending (I can't offer any form of storage, sorry!). Thanks for looking!
