Vehicle Detail
Our Chevy Prizm had an engine failure going home, south, a total engine break down. It does not leak oil to the best of my knowledge. The engine damage is internal, a broken axle(s) or timing chain or whatever. It is very serious damage. A tower had to leave it in Venice at a mechanic's shop. You will have to tote it from central Venice within three days of this auction's end or the mechanic will push it out on the sidewalk where it will be vandalized, most likely. Immediate payment after auction's end or the offer will go to second highest bidder. Paypal. This car needs to move FAST, can not stay much longer on mechanic's lot. It can be toted by a rope if put in neutral. The mechanic recommended us a replacement motor, something we will not do, knowing how these engines are prone to the same error. I estimate the street value to be $600. ($200 for the four almost new Cooper Lifeliner tires on standard steel wheels, and $400 for the junk value at a metal recycling place.) The engine does not turn. Ignition is dead too. I don't think the steering or transmission took damage when the engine caved in, but I'm unsure. 4-gear automatic. I was up at the car today and pulled our luggage out of the trunk. When I put the car in neutral and released the parking break the car started to roll backwards in a normal fashion. I could steer the car. It was a very short test. Could not test to roll if forward because it was on a slight slope on the yard. The bad: The engine. Plus, the car was a year ago in a small collision, which has nothing to do with the engine break down a few days ago. The collision slightly dented the front bumper and hood. Did not affect driveability in any way. The CD player became a bit sensitive to some discs after the collision, plays about 50% of them skip-free or not at all. It played all discs before the accident. The A/C works but the fan only works on off or full. The outer front passenger door handle is broken off but the door can still be opened from the outside with little trouble. On the right rear door on the inside the synthetic fabric/padding on the door has melted a bit along a slit because we transported a telescope on the back seat a few years ago and the light was concentrated on the door, melting stuff. The good: Obviously, the price. The tires are good, and the suspension and steering and transmission too, I think. We are not smokers. One owner in reality. My wife took it over from her father right after he bought it. Had the engine not gone dead we would happily drive this car for another 10-20 years. The engine is prone to problems if you google "Chevy Prism 2002 engine". Maybe you can fit a lightly used engine to this car. We will come up to Venice and sign over the title to you when you tote it away. This car is sold AS IS. NO RETURNS. You can have it for $1 if no one outbids you. Good luck! Photos are added soon.On Jul-01-11 at 04:36:08 PDT, seller added the following information: The car is in a secured area where the public is not allowed in. The buyer of this car MUST tote it off the lot AFTER the title has been signed over. Our tag plate is still on it and we will remove it at the time of transfer. The buyer must NOT remove the wheels and leave the car with the mechanic. The buyer must show us his/her ID. It has new inside door handles and the battery is a year old or less. The tires have about 5000 miles on them, very good grip and ride, lasts for 50,000 miles. To let a mechanic fix the car for us would be too expensive. We rather sell the car to someone who is knowledgeable around cars. We are buying a used car soon which a co-worker to my wife is willing to sell her in a few weeks. We are currently riding around in a rental car. Our loss is your gain. In the picture of the car by the trees we are on vacation and the trunk and rear seat are full of luggage so the rear suspension is weighted down. In the picture with two cars side by side ours is the smaller on the left. The second highest bidder could take the chance of showing up outside on the sidewalk, if bringing as much cash as the highest bid, in case the highest bidder is late to show up. Contact me if you are willing to take the chance that the highest bidder will not show up on time. This car must move FAST. The mechanic will not let any of you in on the secured property, except for the buyer who paid us and is there. The mechanic has nothing to do with us selling this car and he does not want to be part of the foot traffic. Second highest bidder will have to look at the car from a 30 yards distance, from the street. Keep this in mind. No hands on. Trespassing is a crime. On Jul-01-11 at 15:33:37 PDT, seller added the following information: The official title of the car is not salvage. It worked fine a couple of days ago. The car is also active with our insurance company so that we can drive the rental car around. I call it salvage in the add here on ebay to make people understand that this is not a car you can drive. It has to be toted away. The engine is shot. If you can fix the engine then you have a safe car to drive around for many many years to come. It takes corners beautifully. On Jul-01-11 at 16:10:48 PDT, seller added the following information: The Geo Prizm and Chevy Prizm cars used Toyota Corolla engines of the same time period. I recommend you replace the engine with a used Toyota Corolla engine. Read up on this matter on the Internet. Think of this engine as shot beyond repair. If we owned a second car we would tote this car to a junk dealer and get $400-$500 cash for the metal value. But we don't own a second car.On Jul-03-11 at 03:42:21 PDT, seller added the following information: I will take cash, face to face, at the time of title transfer if you don't have enough money in your PayPal account. I will not negotiate the price down with the highest bidder but rather call a local junk dealer to come and tow it away for free and pay me $500 cash in hand.
