Vehicle Detail

Hello everyone, here is a chance to get your hands on a sweet and rare ride at a bargain price. This is a clean title 1996 Ford Mustang Cobra convertible in the much-desired triple black color scheme. It has a 5-speed manual transmission. It has 118,500 miles on the original engine and transmission. I am the third owner (since 7/2005) and it has been my daily driver for the past 6 years. Autocheck reports a (minor?) accident before I owned it but I have never seen any evidence or difficulty from that. The car is in fair to good condition; there are some things that need to be done, which I will describe in detail. If you're looking for a mint-condition car, this isn't it. If you're looking to get your hands on something that can be used as a daily driver while you fix all the nit-picks, read on. Where I live now I just don't have the time or space to work on it. I will tell you the absolute bottom price is $4000. Below that I will not sell it. If it were in pristine condition the price would be in the $9000+ range. There are only 80 or so 1996-98 Cobra convertibles for sale in the entire country. Modifications There were a number of modifications done by the previous owners, many of them are Steeda parts. Unfortunately I don't have a complete list but I will get as close as I can: K&N filter and UPR Power Tube intake tube. Otherwise the engine is stock. JBA headers Steeda street X-pipe Magnaflow "50 state" cats (about 6 years old) Flowmaster 3-chamber mufflers (about 4 years old) 3.73 gears Tri-Ax shifter King Cobra clutch (1 year old) Steeda clutch quadrant and firewall adjuster Ford '03 Cobra clutch cable Steeda pedal extensions Steeda Sport rear springs. I also have the front springs but they're not installed. 5-Spoke 18" rims, "stallion series" I think they may be Roush but not sure. Roush rear spoiler Nitto NT555 tires, fronts are 245/40ZR18, rears are 285/35ZR18 4 Bilstein shocks (1 year old) Now to describe the condition of the various parts of the car by category: Engine and exhaust The engine runs fine, I have no worries about it. The check engine light is on with two codes set which I believe to be exhaust related: P0420: Catalyst efficiency bank 1 P0174: System too lean, bank 2. This one is brand new… I just re-scanned the codes for the ebay listing and found it. There is an exhaust leak, this may be related to these codes. Transmission It shifts OK for a daily driver, but will eventually need work. There is some resistance on the 1-2 shift depending on RPM. Twice I have asked mechanics about whether it's time for a rebuild and they're kind of on the fence. I'm pretty easy on it… if you get in it and start jamming the gears hard then… I dunno. A/C: works Convertible Top: Works. It was replaced by the previous owner shortly before I bought it. I have had no problems with it, no leaks. Interior: Front seats are a bit worn, there is a tear in the driver's seat which you can see in the pics. Otherwise the back seats, carpets, headliner, and interior trim is good with the exception of the plastic right around the cigarette lighter which is a bit broken. Stereo: The car has the factory Mach 460 sound system, which has cassette and a single disc slot-loading CD player. Unfortunately, the CD player does not work. Power Windows: Motors all work. The front right window will catch on the top if you close the door with the window all the way up, so you have to crack the window, close the door, and raise it. The back left window is slightly crooked on its track, you have to tug on it to get it all the way up. Body/paint: Good. No surface rust, paint is still shiny. A couple of minor dings on the driver's door. Tires: Pretty worn. Maybe 10-25% tread left. Extras: I will also give you the following: Steeda Sport front springs (not installed) Helm 1996 Mustang shop manual 1996 Ford OBD1 and OBD2 powertrain/emissions manuals Chilton Manual SVT owner's manual 2 keys with remotes Whatever other new parts I have Comments on the Autocheck report: If you're wondering about the California title, that was me. I bought the car in Florida, moved to California for 3 years and moved back. As far as the accident that's listed from 2004, that was before my time but it seems to have been minor (backing into a parked car?). If the damage were serious, autocheck would have listed it differently. Terms of auction and sale Car is sold AS IS with no guarantees of anything. The description is accurate to the best of my knowledge. I reserve the right to cancel bids from bidders with negative or insufficient history. Bidding is a binding contract, do not bid unless you intend to go through with it. No test drives due to insurance reasons and I don't want people racing it. Payment is only accepted in cash. We should complete the transaction within a week or so after the July 4th holiday. Good luck!
