Vehicle Detail

1973 Rolls Royce Silver Shadow- Long Wheelbase. This Rolls has been pampered and garaged its whole life. It is a rare long wheelbase model which gives you about 4" more room in the back seat. The paint still shines and there are no tears in the leather or carpeting. I would rate this car overall Very Good for an 38 year old un-restored car. I have owned the car since 2007 and it has been mechanically reliable and used as a daily driver. It has an excellent air conditioner and is very comfortable as you might expect. The color is Desert Sand with white upholstery and tan carpeting. A very nice gentleman's toy that will get you a lot of comments wherever you go and a solid investment to boot. Per Wikipedia- Silver Shadow introduced many new features such as disc rather than drum brakes, and independent rear suspension, rather than the outdated live axle design of previous cars. The car's most innovative feature was a high-pressure hydraulic system licensed from Citroën, with dual-circuit braking and hydraulic self-leveling suspension. At first, both the front and rear of the car were controlled by the leveling system; the front leveling was deleted in 1969 as it had been determined that the rear leveling did almost all the work. Rolls-Royce achieved a high degree of ride quality with this arrangement. A long-wheelbase variant, some 4 inches longer to provide additional rear seat legroom, was offered in the USA from May 1969, and available to domestic customers from early 1970. Some long-wheelbase models were fitted with a privacy glass divider and are now highly sought-after by collectors. The only cosmetic or mechanical defects I am aware of are as follows. The radio is not working although the power antenna does and I don't have a tape to check it out the 8 track tape player. There is an exhaust leak on the right side of the engine. It is not a safety or performance issue, but it does make a noticeable ticking noise when accelerating. There is a chip the side of a quarter on the right side of the hood (visible in photo), and a 1/4 hole in the driver side of the vinyl top which is nice and pliable otherwise. There is some crazing or small cracks forming in the paint around the hood and trunk near the front and rear windows. There is a rust spot on the door jam where you kick it getting in on the driver's side. The wood trim on the drives side and rear passenger side doors is in excellent shape, however the lacquer is starting to lift off in large flakes at the bottom of the window frame. These pieces are only about 4" wide and could be refinished at home or mailed to a Rolls Royce wood expert. The leather has a fine spider web of cracks due to aging but no splits or tears. Please email any questions you might have to my mechanic at Texag90@live.com. The car is available for inspection in Arlington, Texas.
