Vehicle Detail
Due to advancing age and a recent (non-motorcycle) injury, I’m reluctantly disposing of my motorcycles. This auction is for my 1986 BMW R100RS Motorsport Edition (SRS). If you’re not aware of this special limited edition model, there were only 200 of them built with the full “RS” style fairing. From what I understand, this example is one of only a handful (some say there are only 3 or 4) of these that came with the “S” (sport) rather than the “RS” (touring) fairing. It also comes with both seats, although I’ve only used the solo seat. These bikes are very special and command high prices. I can only find one other for sale right now. It has the usual RS fairing, & looks pretty nice. The asking price is $8,750, and the ad can be found here: http://www.goeaston.net/~girard/index.htm#Motorcycle The Beemer I have for sale has never been apart, & is totally original. It has 57,000 original miles, and still runs perfectly. She spent the first part of her life in California, until I bought her in the early 90’s. After that she lived in my garage in Scottsdale AZ, and accompanied me to North Carolina when I moved here a couple of years ago. The bike has not been ridden since last season, and, with the exception of the 1st photo, it shows in all the other photos I’ve posted. She’s been sitting in my garage, gathering dust for almost a year, and needs a good cleaning. I didn’t even try to wipe the dust off her for the enclosed photos so you could see exactly what you’re bidding on. Mechanically she needs nothing. All the lights & accessories work just fine. Put some fresh gas in her, charge up the battery, and you’re ready to take off cross country. Cosmetically she has the typical small blemishes you’d expect of a bike that’s been on the road for 32 years. There’s one tiny ding on the right rear part of her tank, that doesn’t penetrate the paint. Something fell on her in the front while being transported, that broke the windshield and put a small crack in the fairing on the left side. The windshield has been replaced. There are numerous small scratches etc, but she still looks good on the road, and unless you’re looking for flaws, they’re really not noticeable. She still turns heads wherever she goes. If you'd like any additional photos, please tell me what details you'd like to see, and I'll get additional good sharp photos out to you right away. This bike is not a show queen, but it wouldn't take much to turn her into one, and from what other SRS Motorsport models have been selling for, it's well worth treating her to a cosmetic clean up if that's what's important to you. As for me, I just wish I could still ride her like I used to, The best part about owning a Beemer is their reliability. Other than for routine maintenance, tires, and a few new batteries over the years, I haven’t had to spend any money on her, and I suspect that there’s another 50,000 trouble free miles in her before the next owner will need to start thinking about a possible engine rebuild. These bikes simply don’t break. My first BMW, an R60/2, served me well for 20 years, and nothing ever broke on that one either. When I finally decided to make the move up to a modern "electric start" Beemer, I got lucky and found this one. If it wasn't for my advanced state of decrepitude, I'd still be riding her. I can see no reason to trade up to a more modern model. Treat her right, and don’t skimp on the routine maintenance, and she’ll get you wherever you want to go, quickly, comfortably and safely. While the newer Beemers are more technologically advanced, I don’t think there’s any that are better looking. She’s both a sought after rare classic and a reliable every day ride suitable for bar hopping or cross country touring, or anything in between. Shipping bikes is no problem of course these days, and I’m flexible about payment methods, A deposit will be required by PayPal, with the balance paid by wire transfer or direct deposit, however the bike will not leave here until funds have cleared. While this bike is in great running condition, please understand that you are buying a complex machine that’s 32 years old, in “As Is” condition and that I am making no guarantees of warrantees of any kind about the bike or any of its systems or components. You can take comfort however in the fact that I've sold several classic bikes and other high dollar items on eBay and my seller's feedback is a perfect 100%. Prospective buyers are encouraged to contact me to discuss any questions or concerns that they may have at least 48 hours before the end of the auction. Prospective buyers are encouraged to have the bike inspected prior to the end of the auction. Bidders are welcome to have anyone come inspect her in my garage. I also reserve the right to reject bids by buyers with either zero or poor feedback ratings. On Jun-24-11 at 07:30:16 PDT, seller added the following information: Additional Photos posted 6.24.11 I wasn't able to get these additional photos to appear full sized, so if any prospective bidders would like to see better copies of these pix, please contact me with your eMail address included, as photos cannot be sent through the eBay mail system. The bike really needs a good cleaning & detailing. I apologize for not being able to get it cleaned up for these pix.
