Vehicle Detail
This vehicle is being relisted due to a non paying bidder (timothyk827). Please only bid if you will honor your bid. Hello and thank you for looking at my auction. My name is Joe and I am a licensed wholesaler offering traded in and off lease vehicles directly to the public. Buying your next vehicle through one of my NO RESERVE auctions could save you thousands over what a retail dealer might ask for the same vehicle by eliminating most of the retail related overhead and letting you name your own price. Before listing a vehicle on ebay, I personally road test each vehicle so I can tell your first hand how each one looks, runs and drives. The description you are about to read is my honest opinion of this vehicle based on what I was able to gather from my road test. The information contained within this description is true and correct to the best of my knowledge and ability but cannot be guaranteed as I am not a mechanic and do not inspect vehicles beyond being road tested. If you would like to come take a look at this or any of my vehicles before bidding, just ask. I will be happy to set a time to meet you at my storage facility so that you can kick the tires all you want. An administrative fee of $99 will be added to the final bid of each auction. All vehicles are sold "as-is" and "as-traded". Unless specifically stated otherwise, I do not service or recondition any vehicle prior to sale. Any known faults are fully disclosed. Please read the entire description before bidding or asking questions. Up for a NO RESERVE auction today is a 1989 Cadillac Allante roadster. These are quite unique vehicles in that it was one of the first times we saw a domestic car company market an Italian car which was a huge risk for Cadillac. On top of that, these cars carried a sticker price of about double that of the current model Corvette which was considered the iconic king of General Motors. The $65,000+/- price tag (in 80's money) was due in part to the fact that the cars were built in Italy and then shipped to the states for final assembly. Although sales were limited, the Allante did last for seven years until GM pulled the cord and managed to leave a lasting impression on what we considered possible from a domestic car maker. The funny thing is that they have the reliability of an American powertrain with the fickle nature of an Italian sports car in everything else. If you know these cars, you'll know that they are pleagued with a few common troubles. I am not an expert on these cars but I will try my best to report its condition as accurately as possible. The exterior of this Allante is finished in black with chrome wheels with a black soft top and tan leather interior. Overall, this isn't a bad looking car. I will admit, I didn't even wash it before taking these pics. This is how it looks, no tire shine, no spiff job or any tricks. The photos were kind to her, though. There is some very minor paint cracking (like on my Grand National) and a few small faded spots on the trunk lid. I would say she has fared pretty well considering the miles. There is a small dent at the drivers fender. The chrome wheels look good and are wrapped in nice rubber with good tread. The outside of the soft top looks good and the glass windows are in good condition but the interior liner of the top looks to be missing/in poor condition. This is a good example of a nice "driver quality" Allante. It shows normal wear consistant with a driven vehicle. Probably not the one for your collection but it is a really comfortable and easy cruiser. You can take it for a ride with reasonable confidence that you won't pass another one like it. All of the glass and lenses appear to be in tact. The interior of this Allante is in AVERAGE condition. What really shocked me is how nice the seats were. I had an 87 Allante once and the leather was very hard and brittle. The seats in this Allante are very supple and comfortable. The power adjusters all seem to be working. The passenger door window is inoperative. There are the usual interior issues...the console is a little loose and the handle and window buttons on the doors are a little loose. All of the instrumentation seems to be in working order including the display pixels and onboard computer. The climate control is in good working condition and the air conditioning is cold. The radio is working but not all of the speakers are. There is a CD changer in the truck with a controller in front of the shifter. The amplifiers are known to be troublesome and should be replaced all at once. It looks like the pull down motor for the top is broken from its mounting place. I know this is another common issue. I was able to release and lower the top but I cannot get the rear to latch down when attempting to raise the top. With the top stored in the boot, I cannot get the boot cover to latch. I've done some research and it seems that operating these tops is a learned skill and the manual is absolutely no help. The original owners manual does come with the car. It is a very comfortable car to cruise in. I have driven it on several occasions and it is a pleasure to drive. Mechanically, this Allante seems to be in decent condition. The 4.5L V8 starts right up and idles quietly. I noticed no leaks and saw no smoke. The engine runs smoothly and makes good power, making this car a blast to drive. During the times I have driven this car, the engine kept a steady temperature and good oil pressure. The suspension is very tight and handles the bumps well. The steering is also tight and responsive. The brakes will need some attention. When you press the brake pedal, it pulls a little to the right and the brake light comes on in the dash and the "anti-lock disabled" warning comes on in the information center. Then it says "anti-lock ok" and it brakes fine. I don't know what to make of that. It can be driven...I've put close to 100 miles on it so far and counting :) The transmission shifts smoothly. She will cruise effortlessly down the highway and drives smooth as silk. There are no vibrations in the front end and no pulling or apparent allignment issues. Again, this is a nice "driver quality" Allante. I would fix the brakes, maybe sort out the top and just enjoy it...but that's just me. There are plenty of Allante owners clubs who can provide valuable insight into the process of restoring and maintaining your Allante. Plenty of new old stock and reproduction parts are available to do as much as you want to bring your Allante back to it's original glory. I've learned a lot on these forums and ran into some really helpfull people eager to share what they know about these special automobiles. Thank you all for looking and good luck bidding.
