AHRMA ELIGIBLE, LOW ORIGINAL HOURS, FRAME #9807002578, ENGINE #9807002578 This 1974 CZ 250 MX epitomizes the early 1970’s motocross machine that became a permanent part of CZ lore and still represents the classic style… The condition of this machine is highly original, low hour, and un-restored. The frame number and the engine numbers are factory correct and original. It is the 250 cc engine. The gearbox is also original to the machine. I am the third or fourth owner from new. It has a fantastic patina to it that can’t be replicated and is a true historical document that should be preserved for the future. This machine has been in my collection and is started on a regular basis. As with all of the bikes in my collection, they are even ridden occasionally! When I purchased the bike, it had been sitting as a static display for some time in its original state. I set about doing a sympathetic re-commission of it by checking all of the major engine, transmission, and braking components for wear and safety. Any questionable wiring was also replaced. The gas tank was cleaned and the original Ikov carburetor inspected, cleaned, and re-installed along with a new air filter. Many of the major components were removed, cleaned, detailed, preserved and re-installed on the machine without actually restoring them. I went to great lengths to preserve as much of this CZ as possible without restoring it and losing the originality of the bike. As a result, all of the parts, pieces and fasteners on the machine are correct and original. The tires are Barum 2.75-21 on the front and Barum 4.88-18 on the rear, and appear to be original to the machine. The wheels are also original and do not look as if they have ever been taken apart. The original Koni shock absorbers are also present and in excellent original and well preserved condition. The seat is original and the upholstery is in very nice condition with no rips or tears. The fenders are in fantastic original condition with no cracks or damage present. The engine and transmission are in excellent interior condition due to the low mileage and absence of any type of harsh conditions or abuse throughout its life. A complete cleaning and detailing was performed, and although detailing on an original machine is never completed, the overall condition of the finishes is remarkable considering the age of the machine, and is commiserate with the low original hours. The aluminum parts are in excellent condition overall, but due to the originality, I did not want to go too far polishing any parts. The paint on the tank and fenders was done at some point in its life, and it is very presentable. The correct CZ decals are applied to the gas tank. The CZ on the road is very easy to handle, and rides down the road very tight, with no shakes, shimmies, or rattles. It shifts and accelerates smoothly and holds the road as it should, even with the original tires installed. There is absolutely nothing that needs to be done to this machine to ride it occasionally and enjoy it as a showpiece. If the new owner decides to compete in vintage events, I would recommend going over the bike again for safety and replacing the tires, brakes, etc. Either way, the new owner will have a very easy cosmetic restoration or, some would say, the more desirable original machine. PLEASE NOTE: The description of this machine is written to the best of my knowledge. However, I am by no means an expert on vintage motocross motorcycles. Please don’t hesitate to ask for more photos of any part of the machine and, if at all possible, come and look in person before the auction ends. All sales are final. If you have any questions, please contact me. I also have several other motocross and enduro machines for sale, including Maico, Montesa, Gilera, Husqvarna, and Can-Am motorcycles. Please contact me if you are interested. TERMS: PLEASE NOTE THIS MOTORCYCLE IS SOLD BY BILL OF SALE ONLY. $500.00 DEPOSIT WITHIN 48 HOURS OF AUCTION CLOSE. BALANCE OF AUCTION AMOUNT MUST BE PAID BY CASH IN PERSON, BANK TO BANK WIRE TRANSFER, OR CERTIFIED FUNDS (WITH VERIFICATION) ONLY WITHIN 7 DAYS OF AUCTION CLOSE. SORRY, NO C.O.D. AND NO PAYPAL. If you have any questions, please contact me. If you live close to Chicago, I encourage you to come and inspect the bike in person. In an effort to protect the eBay user information and to help ensure the authenticity of correspondence between sellers and bidders, eBay’s new listing format does NOT display any bidder information. Nevertheless, I STRONGLY encourage bidders to contact me directly to answer questions or to verify correspondence. Seller reserves the right to not accept bids or sell the vehicle to anyone with a zero or negative eBay feedback rating. Please do not waste my time or yours bidding on an item you do not intend to pay for. If you bid on this machine and win, you are expected to pay for the motorcycle and pick it up in a timely manner! If you are an international buyer, I understand it can take some time to arrange shipping, so I do not mind keeping the bike for a longer period of time until pick up. I can also arrange crating for shipment on my end for a nominal extra charge. Please contact me before the sale ends, if possible, to discuss the specifics. If you need any additional photos of any part of the bike, please let me know and I’d be happy to email them to you. For more on the history of CZ, read on… CZ is short for Ceská Zbrojovka, which is a Czechoslovakian firearms manufacturer that is also known for making CZ motorcycles. In September 1919, CZ was established as a branch of the Škoda Works Armament in Strakonice, Czechoslovakia. CZ began making street motorcycles in 1932, but abandoned racing them in 1972 so that they could focus on creating CZ motocross bikes, becoming very well known for their powerful two-stroke MX bikes and was the first company to use expansion chambers in their exhaust pipes. Although CZ was very successful in Grand Prix motorcycle racing, they were even more successful with motocross racing, winning seven World Championships and dominating the International Six Day Trials Competition. Despite CZ’s racing success, the company lost a lot of the motorcycle market with the increase of popularity in the less expensive Japanese motorcycles in the 1970s. In 1993, Italian motorcycle manufacturer Cagiva purchased the motorcycle branch of CZ, with intent to create new proprietary bikes, as well as new CZ models. Cagiva failed in 1997 because of financial difficulties, therefore bringing an end to CZ Motorcycles. Coutesy of VintageMX.net Thanks for your interest!
