Vehicle Detail
Due to a Scammer clicking "Buy it Now" this car is back up for sale. The scammer told me he'll mail a check to include shipping to Europe. Plus some extra for my time. He must think I just fell out of a bananna tree. Due to this kind of idiot I now require an immidiate $500 deposit via Paypal. So let's try again..... ~~~~~~~~ I have for sale my 1958 Austin FX3 London Taxi. ~ Clear Title in Hand ~ Right Hand Drive ~ Suicide Doors ~ I bought this vehicle last year intending to complete the restoration, but now I've bought another vehicle so this one has to go. She’s a total head turner and has a ton of potential as an Ideal Wedding Car, Business promotion vehicle, Daily driver or Just for fun. I have some interesting history of this actual vehicle. It was originally owned and operated by the London General Cab Company Ltd. Ask me for details. See here for a general history of this car: http://www.austinmemories.com/page60/page60.html The last owner made some cosmetic modifications including replacing the rear lights with lights from a 1941 Cadillac, and obviously he repainted her pearl white. The original BMC 2.2 liter Diesel engine runs but needs attention. The transmission, running gear, brakes lights all work perfectly. The chassis and bodywork are generally solid. I believe the engine and transmission can be successfully replaced with a cheap 1980’s Toyota pickup R22 type. These engines are plentiful and just about bullet proof. This car is fitted with automatic jacks, so that you turn a knob under the hood and she rises off the ground to change a wheel. I've never tried using this so I have no idea if it works. The interior is complete but needs reupholstering and she needs a lick of paint here and there but she has an absolute ton of potential. She also comes with a complete workshop manual. I received this question....... Q: Do you have the missing door? Jun-05-11 A: There is no missing door. London taxis were built that way. The law used to say, and I believe still does say that the trunk of a taxi must have room for a bale of hay for the horse! Therefore the space where the front seat might have been was for luggage. A passengers cases were held in place by bungees. Another old law relating to London taxis is that they had to have enough headroom for a passenger wearing a top hat, and it does !! Another law allowed for a London taxi driver to pee on the rear wheel of his taxi without fear of prosecution. Please see the last of my pictures. See... No door !! Thank you for the question and the smile !! ~ Please Ask Questions ~ ~ Thank you ~ On May-25-11 at 10:28:22 PDT, seller added the following information: I have been contacted by a gentlemen in Connecticut who has offered me a complete parts car with a strong motor plus 4 new tires and a load of other spares for just $500. I will pass his contact information to the winning bidder.
