Vehicle Detail

ONE OWNER Triple Black 1979 VW CONVERTIBLE Excellent! I have for sale a very clean ONE OWNER 1979 Volkswagen Beetle convertible. It is triple black with all original equipment and even has A/C! This car is one of less than 1000 "Epilogue" Beetle special edition cars and were the last special edition beetle sold in the USA. The Epilogue special edition was the last production run of the Beetle Cabriolet. Only one was allocated to each dealer and all were black over black with woodgrain dashboard and sport steel rims. This well documented car has a complete service history from day one including the original title, bill of sale, manuals, window sticker, all service records and every piece of paper from the car since the day it was born. Every receipt for every spark plug, belt, oil change, set of tires, etc. that the car every had is in the extensive service file. The service file is in two three ring binders in chronological order. If the car needed it, it got it. The car was repainted 7 years ago at a very high quality local shop and the finish is like a mirror and much better than factory and looks fantastic. There are four small rust bubbles less than the size of a dime on the car. The floor pans were replaced at the time it was painted due to some minor rust out in the pans. (a typical Beetle issue, especially on a convertible) The undercarriage is clean and rust free. The interior is 100% original to the car and has one small split about 3 inches long on the driver's seat that has been covered with a small piece of black vinyl tape. All chrome and glass is in great condition. The factory designed and dealer installed A/C has never operated well even from the day it was delivered. Basically the old style compressor requires too much torque and would stall the engine at idle, OR if the idle was raised to handle the compressor, as soon as you shut the A/C off it would rev too high all of the time. Three years ago the dealer told her that she could swap out the old style compressor for a new style Sanden compressor that requires much less torque for about $600 and the A/C would work perfectly, but she figured she had gone this long without the A/C, why bother now! The engine runs great, idles smoothly and the trans shifts perfectly. The car tracks true and brakes well and has new tires all around. The top is in excellent condition too with a perfect black boot and there is also a highline car cover. It runs perfectly, looks fantastic and ready for immediate use. There are a couple of very minor blemishes on the car that keep it from being absolutely perfect, but it is overall in excellent condition. The original 78 year old female owner is getting to the point where a manual shift car may not be the best idea for her. That is the original owner in the pictures. So the car is available for some lucky VW enthusiast to continue to enjoy. CAR IS BEING SOLD IN A TRUE NO-RESERVE AUCTION WITH A LOW OPENING BID OF $5000. Everyone out here knows the car is worth way more than $5,000 and that is a more than fair place to start. On Jun-05-11 at 06:36:31 PDT, seller added the following information: I have had a couple of comments about my feedback being 66.7%. I am so frustrated about that! If you open the listing about the Speedster you will see what a really nice car that was and is. When the man arrived to look at it he examined it throughly. We took it on a long test drive where it performed perfectly. He was thrilled wirh the car. The engine on that car was amazing! The way it sounded and the power it had were like no other VW engine I've ever owned. The engine was built by the previous owner with new cyclinders and a big bore stroker kit since he was a racer and a certified mechanic. But he did not have a tank at home to soak and clean the engine case. So, you can see the brand new cyclinders and that the engine was rebuilt, but the case still looked old, hence the man complaining about the engine being "dirty" on a 25 year old kit car. He also complained about the car having broken motormounts. No big surprise there either! When he came to get the car from about 200 miles away, he came with as U-haul tow dolly, not a trailer. The speedster is very low as you can see from the pictures. He wanted to back it on the tow dolly so the drive wheels would not be dragging. As he tried to back it onto the tow dolly the car's low exhaust slammed into the tow dolly hard because he was trying to launch it up the steep ramps and didn't know how to drive it. He did this three times slamming the car's engine and exhaust into the tow dolly hard before he gave up. The headers were mangled at the ends and bent down. He then turned the car around and tried to launch it up the ramps forward but the engine bottomed out hard on the ground because the ramps were so steep and the car so low. When he realised the car's butt would be dragging and he could not use the tow dolly, he tried to pull the car off, but the exhaust had dug itself into the ground and it would not come down, but he still tried popping the clutch and stalled it digging the engine into the dirt. I stopped him at that point and told him to pull his truck forward while I sat in the car and eased the car off of the tow dolly while he pulled it forward. He then went and got a trailer from U-haul and had no problems loading it. But not before he damaged or broke the car's engine mounts. So what does he do? He leaves me negative feedback claiming the engine mounts were broken. Great. E-bays new feedback policy erases every positive feedback you've ever had except for the last 12 months. So, even though I've had a perfect record before the moron bought the speedster, I have only three feedbacks within 12 months. One third of my score is from the guy that bought the speedster. Two thirds positive is 66.7%. Thanks e-bay.
