Vehicle Detail

My love affair with the first generation RX7's goes back to my first one - an orange 1979 that I owned in college during the 80's. My next love was a gray 85 GSL-SE that I bought new in Kansas City when I returned home from being overseas in the service. Since that time, I have probably owned 25+ first generation rx7's, mainly the SE models. Today, I have too many rx7's and need to thin the herd a bit and focus on my true love a gray 85 SE that I am restoring. So up for auction is my daily driver, a very nice, rust free Sunrise Red , South Texas modified GS model. I bought tis car last summer in San Antonio, worked on it all summer to get it running and then tweaked the daylights out of it to get it to the nice little ride it is that you see today. the car was basically a "barn find" and needed some TLC. I do all of my own work so I can personally vouch for things being done and done right. As a testimony to the workmanship, the car made the 925 mile drive from San Antonio to Omaha without so much as a hiccup. That should give you some indication of its reliability. I would not hesistate to make the trip tomorrow with this same car. it turns heads wherever it goes. The 131,000 mile engine is original and starts right up. I replaced the stock carb with the Racing Beat intake & pair of Delorrto 48DHLA carbs. As part of this conversion, the oil metering pump was removed and blocked off with a Mazdatrix block off plate. A new accelerator cable was installed. The choke and cruise control are still intact but not connected. The factory fuel pump has been replaced with an aftermarket electric fuel pump to keep up with the fuel demand. Also an inline pressure regulator has been installed. The factory exhaust was removed and a Racing Beat header and pre-silencer were installed, a factory replacement connector pipe and a pacesetter muffler complete the exhaust. It has a nice sound to it. Along with this all of the emission equipment was removed including the smog pump and rats nest. Battery and battery cables are new. Clutch Slave Master Cylinder is new. Racing Beat advertisments conservatively estimate that by adding the DHLA 48 carbs and Racing Beat intake along with the Racing Beat exhaust header and presilencer, the stock 12A motor will produce approximately 150 HP.This car loves to rev and develops it HP after 4K RPM. It shifts smoothly and moves out quickly. I am not one to race and tend to baby my cars, but this engine has the juice when you want it. The car also has a new radiator, radiator hoses, thermostat, water pump, NGK plug wires, iginition coils, Double pully Alternator, NGK plugs, the 4 "O" rings under the oil cooler have been replaced and also the A/C components including the compressor, condensor and hoses. I have not charged it since I installed these so it will need a compresor belt to complete the install and a charge. The car had previously recieved a 1985 GSL disk brake rear end, I put new rear pads and turned rotors last fall. Front brakes are good. I installed new KYB GR2 front struts and matching rear shocks in November last year. Car sits on the rare 1983 RX7 Limited Edition 14" BBS rims. These are the only factory 14" rim that will fit this 4x110 bolt pattern and were only offered on the 1983 Limited Edition cars. Tire are fairly new 195/60R14 Toyo's and grip very well. The interior of the car is in very good condition. Starting at the top is the optional moonroof and bag. The rear cargo carpet is nice, headliner not ripped or sagging. All instrumentation works. I just pulled the instrument cluster and installed new bulbs, so they should last another 100K miles. factory AM/FM radio w/casette deck and amp. Radio turns on and lights up but no sound from speakers. Door panels have had the vinyl and pad replaced but the material has worked its way loose again. Just needs to be reglued. Front carpet slighly faded but not too bad. Could use a good shampooing from a carpet cleaner and would probably look like new.Factory seats have been replaced by very comfortable Recaro seats that have a small red pinstripe that accents the cars exterior color. The seats are nice but could use a better seat track attachment. I made them fit but someone could probably make a custom seat track to be perfect. New door weatherstrips and new outer window weatherstrips make for a draft free ride. Also has a new tinted windshield that I had installed in July of last year. This car runs so well and is such a blast to drive that its hard to accept that it has a downside, but I need to list everything. The car has some hail damage in the past. Mainly on the passenger side. It is most noticeable on the passenger front fender, top of passenger door and roof. The drivers side for some reason was not affected but it does have a dent in the lower half of the drivers quarter panel (see photo). I have replaced the hail damaged hood, header panel (between the headlights) and the wiper grill panel with hail free ones of the same color that I took off a parts car. So that is why the panels look a different color. Also the front end showed some fading of the red paint and even though I have rubed it out, it is still more orange than red like the rest of the car. The nose must have been getting sun while the rear of the car was in the shade is best I can figure. There are a couple scratches in the front bumper and the lower valance was painted flat black at one time it appears. There was a small rust hole on the rear deck below the hatch latch and I just put some RTV on it to seal out any rain from getting into the interior. But the hole was the size of a large pea. Thats about it for the negatives. Car also comes with a set of metal rear hatch louvers that are not shown in the pics but that I had removed. Also a nice, used rear 1/4 panel body side moulding for the missing one on the driver side. As I said, the car starts runs and drives very well. no issues. Received TX state inspection last fall and I have receipts for that as well as most of the parts I installed. This is a nice car and I would welcome someone to fly in and drive it home. Or possibly I can drive it to you if something is worked out ahead of time. I have the utmost faith in this low mileage car and know that when i took care of it it was a good car for me. I hope it goes to a Mazda lover and someone who can appreciate the uniqueness of the car and its modifications.. If you have any questions please feel free to ask before the auction ends. On May-16-11 at 07:45:31 PDT, seller added the following information: There was a question about the "84" marking on the hood. This was a crayon marking identifying the year of the hood. It has been removed with bug and tar remover. As mentioned in the description, the original hail damaged hood, wiper cowl panel and nose panel (between the headlights) were replaced with same paint code/color parts off a another car. Another question was about "premix". Mazda designed a factory auxillary (for lack of a better term) oil injection pump designed to inject small amounts of oil into the rotor housings to provide additional lubrication to the rotor's apex seals. The aftermarket Racing Beat intake and Delorotto carb setup does not have a provision to run this system. So the pump is removed and the access hole blocked off. The engine still needs this additional lubrication so a 1/2 - 1 oz of 2 cycle oil is added to the fuel for each gallon of gas. This is then burned in the combustion process similar to the original design and provides the neccessary lubrication to the apex seals. I sometime use Marvel Mystery Oil product instead of the 2 stroke. I have noticed that the car runs much better with this mix. Failure to premix would shorten the engine's lifespan due to lack of internal lubrication.
