Occasionally an example comes along, like this, where "balance" does not entail compromise. THIS ONE WAS UNDOUBTEDLY BUILT WITHOUT COMPROMISE WITH NO EXPENSE SPARED! This vehicle is being offered for the first time and possibly the only time. Lo Lucky is a one off 1932 Ford roadster. That many of you may have seen before. She has been featured in multiple hot rod magazines around the world. And has taken too many awards to mention. She was built in 1994 with a marriage of old and new in mind, an outwardly traditionally looking roadster that is anything but!!! There were a lot of firsts on this car. At the top of the list has to be the color. Back in 1994 Green was hardly the first choice for a hot rod paint job. but here it is a beautiful marriage of a half-and-half blend of 1946 Hudson and 1950 Ford paint formulas. The color codes and exact proportions come with the car. A collaborator on the project, John Hysong, was the one who first floated the thought of green as a top coat for the roadster. John is an avid hot rod historian and artist extarordinaire.A throwback to the 60s he traveled with Von Dutch in his heyday. As there is a decent amount of yellow in that green paint the wheels were done in yellow to compliment the green Following through on that yellow /green connection, anything that would have been chrome plated was nickel coated instead of chrome. Also something different for that time. The yellow in the nickel pulls the yellow out of the wheels and out of the green paint in the body. Subtleties like that abound. Here's another, one reason this roadster looks as dramatically low as it does is because the feature line along the bottom edge of the body has been extended just a bit into the lower hood side. It's a small touch with a big impact. That outside feature extended to the hood is also repeated on the kick panel in the interior. Another subtle touch often missed is the gentle body rework over the rear wheel wells. There's a geaceful french curve built in here, not immediatly noticeable but adding lots to the overall look. Most of the nuts and bolts throughout the car were handmade, featuring either tapered, recessed, or flush heads. The detail is incredible. We should probably explaine the "LO LUCKY" license plate too. It relates to the car's height, or lack of it. Back in the day a drive-in ritual was to slide a pack of Lucky Strike cigarettes under a car to check the stance, and low enough to to just allow those Luckies to clear was as cool as it got. Labor at this level does not come cheap. In chassis work alone every weld was ground and filled and then radiused to the exact same contour, everyone checked against a master gauge made just for this purpose. Obsessive? Perhaps, but the result can't be denied. And "lately", people have been making a big deal about custom-turning headlight bezels out of billet steel. This car had that thirteen years ago then nickel plated them. The renowned Bob Southwick in Colona, Illinois did the chassis. An incredible tool-and-die maker, He's also obviously a talented hot rodder with vision. Bob built a one off adjustable height frame, but done in a way that could have been accomplished in the 50s, he came up with a unique perch mount for the front end, with the removal of two pins the roadster can be lowered another 2 inches at will. And as low as the roadster would be"LUCKY STRIKE LOW", nothing was allowed to hang below the frame rails. This is a ready to show and drive car, That already has promanance.
