Description - The item you will be bidding on is a 1997 BMW 740iL. Has Massachusetts state inspection sticker valid till 4/2012. It is in very good to excellent shape. The car is virtually all stock with no modifications. The iL is the model with the extended wheel base. The back seat is VERY spacious; so spacious it has foot rests. Even the largest passengers will be in complete comfort. She is fitted with a 4.4L V8 engine. It is used every day. A 1997 (14 year old car) with 139,000 miles--works out to about 9000 miles per year; so low relatively mileage. If you drive this car at the speed limit; which is difficult to do since it’s so smooth and quiet; you can get ~ 27 mpg highway, in the city the mpg is ~15 mpg. It starts up easily and runs very strong with good pick up. This car loves the inter-state highway and is a nice cruiser. Air bags all around including side impact. It has 6-way power seats and power head rests. Memory seating (for 3 drivers). The front seats, side rear-view mirrors and steering wheel (yup steering wheel) are all heated. Automatically dimming rear-view mirror. Power windows; all with “one-touch” up and down. The rear windows have privacy screens/sunshades. All headlights have been replaced with “brighter” after market bulbs – but is not Xenon BMW system; they are protected with stone-chip shields. Naturally, air-conditioning with automatic climate control, set and forget. The A/C was serviced last summer and repaired it blows cold and strong. The heat and A/C are independently controlled for the driver and the passenger. Also the car has rear seat A/C and heating vents; an electrically heated front window, which allows rapid defrosting / defogging. The car has an in dash cassette player and an in-trunk mounted CD player (each cartridge holds 6 CD); AM/ FM (numerous presets) and also WB (weather band for on-demand instant local weather), an extra CD cartridge is also included. The stereo has 14 speakers. A tweeter, mid-range and woofer are installed in each door and 2 sub-woofers are located in the rear window area. There is a audio sound system processor and graphic equalizer that allows you to customize the audio experience. It sounds very good. The vehicle features and on board computer which computes mpg’s range to destination, miles remaining with current gas load etc; cup holders, ski sack, cigar compartments and first aid kit. The vehicle also possesses a power adjustable steering wheel for up/down and in/out optimal positioning. In addition, it comes with a moon roof; intermittent wipers and headlight cleaners, full size spare, jack and tools etc. I will be including a few oil filters and air filters, owners’ manuals and other assorted items the new owner will likely want. BMW factory security system. The car is pretty much loaded and good to go. =============================================================================================== NOTE -- I also have 4 snow tires (Blizzak) mounted on matching BMW rims that fit this car. They ARE NOT part of this auction and I may put them on ebay as a separate auction in the fall.=============================================================================================== Condition -- The overall condition is very good to excellent. The paint shows nicely and still shines up as you can see from the photos. If professionally detailed it would sparkle. There are a few dings from living in the city, and one minor surface rust spot, which could be easily repaired. None are terribly offensive. I have photos of them and will gladly send them to you, but preferred to use the listing photos to show the car. The front window was replaced due to a rock chip, so it has no pitting as you would normally expect. The transmission was rebuilt at 122,598 miles in March 2009. This was a huge expense (costing over $3,400) and should be considered a big plus for this car. The shifting is smooth and strong. The car runs like a top. The leather interior is in very good to excellent. All scheduled maintenance was accomplished as required. The car does not leak anything or burn any oil. I use traditional Castrol GTX motor oil. (not synthetic; I tried synthetic – since the dealer recommended it -- but it raised havoc with many of the seals – a costly experiment). Tires are stock Michelins MXV 4; with only 2 summers of use on them – so plenty of tread remaining. The power window lock-out button on the switch had lost its key cap, but the switch is functional -- we purchased the car this way and never fixed it. The car will need brakes soon, I purchased the parts some time ago for the front brakes but have not had time to do the job the parts (pads, rotors and clips) will come with the car (the parts alone are worth $ 400). We were in one minor accident while driving to Cape Cod several years ago. It was hit in the rear and there are some scrapes and scratches. It was not repaired so as you can see from the photos there was no tangible damage. All maintenance documentation, etc since we purchased it is available and included upon request to the winning bidder. Pedigree- We purchased the vehicle from a gentleman in Chelmsford MA, 9 years ago. At that time the car had 50,000 miles on it. He purchased it at auction as it was previously a leased/fleet vehicle.
