Vehicle Detail
This 1974 MGB is a chrome bumper car. Built in January 1974 it is truly one of the last of the full chrome cars. The vehicle has a current and recent Texas vehicle inspection and is in drivable condition. A lifelong MG enthusiast, I purchased this vehicle from a friend with the intent of filling a space in my garage and enjoying Saturday morning drives and Wednesday night drive-ins. I have been enjoying it and the smiles it brings remind me of the 14 others I have owned through my life. Why Should You Choose This MG To Buy? A little about the vehicle: · First, it has a number of additions that make the car much more enjoyable including 14” Mini-Lite wheels, ANSI exhaust and a Tube Shock Conversion. · The car is currently painted in deep black. It looks better in the photos than in person, however it is not a slouch. I would describe the appearance as a good 10 foot vehicle. It appears to have started life as Tahiti Blue and was red at some point as well. · The interior has been replaced at some point and is in better than average condition. · It runs. It stops. It shifts. It drives very well. · Floor pans have been repaired and there is no visible rust. · The top is in good condition and the rear window has about 85% visibility. · The price is right for the car. At the minimum price, it’s a steal. What’s Wrong? The car is solid. I have put nearly 1,000 miles on it since March. The previous owner had the car serviced by a local British car mechanic over the years she owned it. I have tinkered with some of the small stuff. My only concern is an intermittent starter engagement issue- have to hit the key 2 or 3 times every once and again to get it to engage. Experience tells me this is either a lose/corroded connection to the starter or a weak solenoid. It has not left me stranded. Few scratches in the paint as well. Needs a good, deep cleaning. As with all MGs it could die tomorrow of it could go for a long time. I grew up on these cars, my dad raced them in SCCA and we always had one around. This is a pretty good car. My opinion is that at $5,000-$6,000 it is a Buyer wins transaction… $6,000-$7,000- Win Win… Over $7,000 and I am coming out ahead.
