Vehicle Detail
Der Original SUV... This 1973 VW Type 181 (aka "Thing") belongs to my wife. She purchased it from her sister's mother-in-law who was succumbing to cancer back in 1997. Any history before that is unknown. The car sat in a barn for eight years afterward and was eventually brought home for repairs. We have used it for occasional joy riding during good weather during the past six years. The floor pans have been replaced and coated with a self-installed roll-on bed liner. It has four new aftermarket seatbelts. The windshield wiper motor has been rebuilt. The horn has been replaced, as well as the carburetor and fan belt. It passes the annual Texas Vehicle Inspection. The tires are 70- 80% and are mounted on Cadillac rims. The car has been repainted at some point and pictures show the cracking of excess paint along the bonnet reinforcement lines. There is no visible rust on the unibody or undercarriage. The heater is inoperable, but just needs some time and TLC. The battery is 1 year old and sits in a marine style battery holder to prevent degradation of the new floor pans. It has a Panasonic AM/FM radio with CD player that has a detachable front faceplate. The rear of the bonnet has been bent and is visible in the pictures shown. The upholstery is in good condition, but we put the aftermarket seat covers on the front bucket seats, which are black, to avoid burning our backsides when the top is down. The convertible top is in good condition, but I would rate the side curtain windows as fair. The second gear synchronizer needs to be replaced. My "bug" mechanic also tells me that the shifter bushing needs replaced, as it has some play in it. The pictures also show the UV baking of the tail lamp lenses, but they are solid and intact. The odometer is inoperable, so the actual mileage is unknown. Any questions are welcomed. TERMS: This auction is in U.S. dollars. Bidders are welcome to inspect the vehicle anytime during auction.
