Vehicle Detail

For sale is a 1987 Pontiac Fiero GT with 228,909.5 miles. I have owner her for the last eight years and have done what I can to take care of her. Recent events though have put her condition beyond my financial capacity so I am selling. I will include whatever photos I can here. If there are any specific photos that anyone wants just ask and I will as soon as I can. I am being very honest about the condition of the car and have honeslty been through almost every bit of it so ask any questions you have and I will answer to the best of my ability. I bought the car in August 2002 from a Mr. David Carlson in East Haven, CT for $2700 with approximately 143k miles. It was first registarted/insured under mine and my fathers name for approximatley one year and then has been registared/insured under my name only since. It has always been in CT and always under Nationwide insurance. I hold the title. In fact I just opened the title letter today from the DMV! Still crisp and folded..it says purchase date of 11/05/2004. I have kept a large amount of the reciepts for items brought for the car in repair or restoration. Some have come from local stores, most from The Fiero Store in Stafford Springs, CT. A majority of the repair has been done by me personally. In chronological order, the list includes: Tires (all four, Yokohama H4SV4S), 5 groove alternator pulley, alternator, OEM clutch kit (flywheel cut at instillation), brake flex lines, front brake calipers, brake pads, front engine mount, both rear lower ball joints, both rear outer tie rods, both headlamp motors, both front upper ball joints, both front lower ball joints, timing chain damper, timing cover gasket set, timing chain and sprockets, water pump, hydraulic lifters, intake gasket set, valve cover gasket set, 1988 FWD NOS 2.8 short block (installed at 164,908.7 mi), head gaskets, oil pan gasket, exhaust manifold gasket, cylinder head bolts, exhaust flange gasket (where the Y-pipe meets the down pipe), another timing cover gasket set, valve seals, stock camshaft (from Cam Techniques), oil pressure sending unit connector, left E-Brake cable (from equalizer to caliper), E-Brake equalizer, trunk lid release switch, leather key fob, back-up light switch for Getreg 5-spd, catalytic converter, CAT back exhaust with tips (Ocelot), Sprint Performance heat coated Manifolds, exhaust manifold gaskets, EGR valve, EGR vacuum solenoid, IAC, GT tinted quarter window set, oil pressure sending unit, all front inner and outer wheel bearings, both front wheel bearing seals, door and decklid lock set, cylinder heads from a local machine shop (Rogers Machine Shop) that I suspect are regular GM 2.8 heads and NOT FIERO HEADS, intake and head gasket set, water pump and gasket set, clutch pedal to master cylinder rod bushing, clutch master cylinder rebuild kit, air breather grommet (PCV), Getreg 5-spd axle seals, upper control arm bolts, lower control arm bolts and nuts, front upper and lower polyurethane bushing, rear lower control arm polyurethane bushings, polyurethane sway bar bushings, teflon bushing grease, front sway bar end links, polyurethane ball joint boots, 3rd brake light bulb, coolant tube from Kick Hill Farm (rewelded with a new middle section by a local welder with stainless tube), coolant tube clamp set, all four KYB shocks, driveline absorber, more front outer tie rods, steering stabilizer, front inner tie rods, remanufactured rack & pinion with dust boots, rear inner tie rods, 5-spd clutch slave cylinder, heater core (w/AC), two door hinge pin bushing, one door hinge pin, fender molding, a rocker panel from Kick Hill Farm, and rocker panel rivets, coolant temperature switch....phew! Some of the more recent purchase I have failed to keep track of but they were nothing major. Other little bits here and there have gone into the car like interior light lenses, trim pieces, etc. The current condition of the vehicle is not so good. About three weeks ago I failed at driving and rear ended a Mercedes Bens S500. The accident was low speed (V < 20 mph) but the Fiero didn't handle it well. The photos tell the story best of the damage. It is entirely front end damage. One of the steel struts on the passanger side that aids in proping up the nose is damaged (it honesly was rusting away anyway so a sneeze could have damaged it but regardless) and it looks like the front unibody section may have moved. I have not bothered to do that detailed of an inspection of the vehicle. The hood is damaged (top layer split from the bottome layer), it is cracked at the driver side head light, and I had to cut parts of the head light area away so I could open the headlights to drive at night. The driverside head light mechanism is cracked but the motor seems to still be functional. I have not opened the hood in fear that I would not be able to close it again. The nose is in bad shape. The driverside fender is popped. The vehicle does drive but it does get a bit exciting at times. Something on the passenger side associate with the steering is nearly broken. Likely a tie rod end as they seem to go bad often in my experience. The motor did run fine but has fallen to a lower state. Currently it does idle high. I replaced the IAC but the problem remaid, chances are a vacuum line somewhere has cracked. The idle will vary though so I am a little confused by it. A tune up would most likey do wonders. The paint is faded all over. The rear bumper is on the car but some of the mounting eyelets are broken. The door glass is scratched from the windo mechanisms. The decklid lock is currenly a screwdriver due to me locking my keys in the trunk Thanksgiving morning. The decklid selonoid is not working, appears to be grounded and likely just dead. The drivers seat is weeeeellll worn. The exhaust system is failing. The muffler is rusting away and the tips have fallen off. The high tension springs that hold it all up are stressing it at this point. And I believe one of the coolant line that leads from the thermostat neck to the heater core is leaking. Apart from that, it shows its age as a 24 year old car with just shy of 229k miles. This car has been a daily driver. It has seen rain, snow, dirt, dust, grass, heat, cold, sand, hail, everything. The good is that there are good parts remaining on the car. The headers retail for $600 from Tthe Fiero Store. The car was a pleasure to drive when it drove well. Miles on the motor in the car has 64,000.8 miles. I always ran Mobil 1 full synthetic 5W-30 oil with the Mobil 1 (M1-201) oil filter. Air filters were changed regularly. Gas treatments were run through the system every now and again just for the sake of doing it. I greased the ball joints and tie rods every spring. Mobil 1 oil is also run in the transmission. I do and have driven the car like well, a sports car. I know her limits very well and have explored them regularly. The transmission is showing its age and could likely use a rebuild or some synchro rings. The hydraulic clutch has always been a little erkie but engaged low with a firm pedal. All hardware on the exhause system apart from some U bolts and tip clamps are stainless steel so they come apart readily. None of that rusted together nonsense. The brake pads that are in it are performance pads, I forget what exactly, Stoptech?...but they are barely a year old and in my experience have shown very little wear at the will of my foot. (I had generic Auto Zone pads last 4+ years..). The vehicle always passed emissions, except for that time I found out a cylinder head was cracked in two places..but then I got new heads and pass pass pass. To keep it "short" I will stop here. The vehicle is good for a project or parts but can be driven away. I am basing the price on the usable parts and components within the vehicle and their relative age and condition. Feel free to ask any quesiton you desire. Photos are available at your request provided an email address to send them to. My name is John and look forward to selling the vehicle. **Some things I have remembered that I figured I would mention. I have replaced the intermediate steering shaft, the alternator bracket (with one of two remaining NOS brackets left in the country from what I could determine), and one of the Yokohamas (right rear) has been replaced with a comperable tire (Mastercraft MC-440) after I blew a hole through the sidewall one evening. The car has AC although I have never used it. I understand that there is maybe one or two drops of refrigerant in the system. I do have the belt for the AC pump along with other extra parts (IAC, clutch master cylinder, clutch slave cylinder push rod, exhaust gaskets (Y-pipe to down pipe), and some other bits. Most of it is packaged up in a box already. There is an intact donut spare up front and a little flashlight that you get since I don't want to open the hood to get it! As well, I do have two service manuals for the car, one is the cheap Haynes book that looks like it has been through a war, another is the offical GM 1987 Fiero Service Manual. I had purchased a replacement lock for the decklid and had it keyed up to match the doors but unfortunately the body was incorrect. If I can find it, it is yours. All you have to do if find the correct lock body and any locksmith can put the new lock cylinder in the correct body so you can have a decklid key. ***There seems to be questions about the front end and the extent of the damage. I will take some more photos from above and below as well as provide a verbal update as best I can tomorrow. If anyone would like the photos, just send me a request with an email. On Apr-30-11 at 07:41:13 PDT, seller added the following information: ****I have checked out the front end some more. The front unibody cross member at the very front of the vehicle which appears to be an attempt at a bumper looks like it is in fine shape. I see a little spot of rust that I can stick a fingernail through in the very center but that is it. Moving inward, the driver side unibody where that cross member attaches has a buckle in it. It is not large, any body shop shouldn't have trouble pulling it back to where it belongs. I would guess that it has moved back about 0.5". The passenger side looks fine. This is all done without opening the hood so what I can see is limited. The steering rack is shot with approximately 5-10° of steering play at the wheels. How long it will last is anyones guess. The front brake rotors are also in bad shape. I have taken photos of what I can. The driver side front fender is damaged. The mounting tabs on the side forward of the wheel arch, and the very front tab that is in the hood jamb are torn. The passenger side looks fine. The driver side blinker lens is cracked, passenger is not. It seems that everyone should assume that the driver side is wrose then the passenger. She fires right up at the turn of the key and feels stiff from lack of driving.
