Vehicle Detail

1955 PONTIAC CHIEFTAIN 2 DOOR HARDTOP I bought this car for my wife several years ago. At the time it was completely together but did not run. The car has a good Texas title. It was registered and driven up to 1966, then parked in a garage in the New Mexico desert until 2007. The car was sold to me in 2008. After having it shipped to Pennsylvania I decided on just getting it running so I dropped it off a local GM dealer who had an excellent reputation for doing restoration work. Since I knew most of the mechanics, body shop techs and sales people I convinced myself in letting them do the restoration. The motor and trans was removed, disassemble and rebuilt. Some suspension work was done along with them starting on the body. What happened and why did they not complete the project? Well it turns out the dealer went under. On a Friday morning he told all his employees that this was there their last day and everybody needs to get their tools out by 5 o'clock. The doors were shut and the business closed that day. The car, along with five other restorations were pushed outside and left to the weather. It took some time to get my car back as I owed money to the dealer. All that settled, I moved the car along with all the parts to my garage. I had intensions of completing the car but I since moved and found my wife a 57 Chevy. So I decided to sell the Pontiac. Now that you know the history, here's the details. CAR: 1955 PONTIAC MODEL 870 CHIEFTAIN ENGINE: STRATO STREAK V8. 287 CUBIC INCHES 4 BARREL CARBTRANS: HYDRA-MATICVIN: T755H11053MILAGE: 44686 TRIM PLATE: STYLE NO. 55-25370 = Year/Series/Type BODY NO. BT 1815 = Texas Plant TRIM NO. 266 = Green Ref. http://www.pontiacsafari.com/L1EarlyV8Pontiacs/55ColorChart.pdf PAINT NO. 5555 = Lower Body: Avalon Yellow Upper Body: Raven Black The body on this car is totally rust free (no holes, scaling or soft spots). Some tiny dings , no dents or damage to the body. The front fenders, valance, and hood were prepped and ready for paint. Inside the fenders were painted gloss black urethane along with the inner fenders, radiator support, fire wall and some engine components. The engine and transmission were also painted the correct color in urethane. As far as I can tell, I got back all the parts with the exception of the battery tray and PONTIAC lettering. There may be some other small parts missing. The interior will need a total restoration with the exception of the dash and metal parts. The interior chrome is excellent. Steering wheel has some cracks. The prepped sheet metal is better the NOS. Exterior stainless is in pretty descent condition. Chrome on the bumpers is fair. One hop bar on front bumper is dented. Rest of the chrome is much better then the bumpers. Front windshield is cracked but this is the same as a 55 Chevy. Rest of the glass is good. Windows operate properly.ADDED: It also has 4 brand new tires and shocks. This car has all the original parts including exhaust, body mounts and engine components. Car was never started at the dealers so I don't know the what needs to be done. The carb will need to be rebuilt. It has corrosion from sitting outside and got some water in it. I think the brakes were redone. Not sure but the pedal and emergency brake works great. It did not have brakes when I first got it. I have no information from the dealers restoration as to exactly what was done but I do know that the transmission was completely rebuilt at a cost of $1800. The engine was completely disassembled. I think it has the original internal parts as far as cam, pistons crank, etc. The heads were redone. I have around $11K into this car but I need the room and cash to finish my new garage. Very-Very low reserve. ANY QUESTIONS PLEASE ASK BEFORE BIDDING. CAR IS BEING SOLD AS IS. ALL THE ABOVE INFORMATION IS TO THE BEST OF MY KNOWLEDGE AND IF I THINK OF ANYTHING ELSE I WILL ADD IT TO THE DESCRIPTION. $300 DEPOPSIT REQUIRED VIA PAYPAL WITHIN 48 HOURS OF END OF AUCTION. BALANCE DUE WITHIN 7 DAYS UNLESS OTHER ARRANGEMENTS ARE MADE WITH ME AHEAD OF TIME. BUYER IS RESPONSIBLE FOR DELIVERY. BIDDERS WITH LESS THE 5 FEEDBACKS PLEASE CONTACT ME BEFORE BIDDING. I RESERVE THE RIGHT TO CANCEL ANY AND ALL BIDS. IF YOU WANT TO LOOK AT THE CAR OR ASK A QUESTION DIRECTLY, MY CELL # IS 570-205-2384. THANKS AND GOOD LUCK! On Apr-12-11 at 14:55:05 PDT, seller added the following information: ADDED: There is a static leak at the transmission. I don't suspect anything major as the trans was totally rebuilt.
