Vehicle Detail

Up for auction is a freshly restored 1959 Chevrolet Parkwood Wagon. This particular car was finished in April 2011 and has less then 30 test miles. It is without question, the freshest 1959 Chevrolet Wagon and one of the nicest anywhere! MODEL HISTORY The 1959 Chevrolet series passenger car is easily recognizable by its large horizontal "bat wings" and cat like rear tail lights. The Parkwood six passenger wagon was extremely limited in production. It was produced form 1959 to 1961 only and builst to served as a complement to the Impala and Bel Air. I was told the first owner maintained possession of the car from 1959-1964. The second owner purchased the car in 1964 then later relocated to the Fresno area. The car required mechanical repair work in 1966 and was parked in a shed where it went unrepaired for several years. It remained in the same family for over 46 years. My friend who happens to own a Chevrolet restoration shop, specializing in Impalas and Bel Airs purchased the car in 2010 with the intention of using it as a marketing tool for his business. He has professionally restored multiple Impalas and Bel Airs which have been featured in national publications. He purchased the car pretty much the way you see it today, however with nearly 50 years of sun beaten paint and interior. It was extremely solid and complete to begin with. Unfortunately, he got busy with customer cars and I was lucky enough to purchase the car early in the restoration (I saw the car in bare metal and was sold). The car maintains its original floors, braces, rockers and body panels. The frame was straight and there were no signs of previous collision repair. PAINT/BODY The car was completely disassembled and taken down to bare metal during the restoration. It is a stunning example of a TRUE rust free California car. The paint work is amazing. I welcome prosective buyers to inspect the car for themselves. The paint looks straight and appears wet from any angle/distance. No blisters, cracks or chips. UPHOLSTERY/INTERIOR All interior components were completely removed. The dash was painted the factory Highland Green. All of the gauge lenses were refurbished or replaced. All interior stainless was straightened and polished to a show finish. The interior trim pieces that are commonly upholstered over, were correctly painted Highland Green. The entire interior was hand stitched using factory 1959 Chevrolet colors, fabrics and patterns. The seats received the upgraded 1959 Impala multi-color green cloth inserts. Everything from the interior firewall pad to the star pattern headliner is new. CHROME/STAINLESS The bumpers were triple plated chrome. All exterior body moldings were removed, straightened and polished to a show finish. All of the complex interior/exterior stainless was removed and polished as well. GLASS It has a new windshield. The majority of the side glass is new. A few original pieces were salvaged. ENGINE/TRANSMISSION The car has a correct 1959 Date Coded 283 V8 with two barrel carburator which produces approximately 185 horse power. The transmission is a two speed powerglide automatic. The car is an original V8/automatic transmission car. The date codes are correct and believed to be numbers matching. Both were rebuilt during the restoration and have less then 30 miles test miles. The engine compartment is nicely detailed, complete with original General Motors hoses. The car fires right up and maintains a smooth sounding low idle. MISCELLANEOUS The car performs fantastic. The dummy lights, head lights, brights, turn signals, wipers, gas gauge, speedometer, odometer ALL work. The car has a new heater core. Amazingly the fan, defroster and interior air vent ports ALL work. The grill, vent screens, tail light bezels, bolt hardware were zinc plated and anodized. All brakes and brake hardware are new. The radiator is new. The interior and exterior firewall are detailed. The fender wells, heater core housing, bumper brackets, fan shroud, radiator support and air intake were all powder coated. New wiring harnesses were intalled. The interior door locking mechinisms, window regulators, door strikers etc. were all zinc plated. The rear lift gate locking mechinism and glass regulator were zinc plated. The kick panel vents were beautifully painted Highland Green. The lift gate hinges were chrome plated. The wheels were painted the correct Highland Green which came out as nice as the body. It has a new set of wide white wall tires and polished hub caps. All of the suspension, including the rear end was rebuilt. New dual exhaust from manifold to tail pipes. The exterior door handles were polished. New exterior radio antenna. The door open and shut effortlessly. All panels line up beautifully. All the gaps are even. I could go on about how much money was spent powder coating, plating and polishing, however I figure the pictures will tell the story. The undercarriage is very clean and honest. I refuse to hide things under gallons of undercoating. It is pretty much clean enough to eat off of. NEEDS The rear storage area floor was painted the correct Highland Green. The next person may want to have it carpeted. The vent windows have a few small bubbles, otherwise all the other glass is great. The car was built to be driven, however the car could be a "show only" car with additional detailing. TERMS The car will be sold with a clear California title in my name. California buyers will be given the vintage black with yellow California license plates, which can be registered to the car as they are assigned to it. I require a non-refundable $1000 deposite withing 48 hours. Final payment is due within five business days (no exceptions). I accept bank transfers, certified bank checks and/or cash in person at my bank. The car will not be released until all funds have cleared. Shipping is to be paid by the buyer. I welcome questions/inspections and can be contacted at (714) 234-6095. Please do not call simply to ask for the reserve. The auction is scheduled to end Saturday, April 23, 2011 at 3:00 pm Pacific Standard Time (the day before Easter). I reserve the right to end the auction at any time for any reason. Summary Wagons have recently increased in both popularity and value. This beautiful 1959 Chevrolet Parkwood Wagon is no exception. My original goal was to turn the car into a low rod or pro touring car. I simply did not have the heart to beat it up. For what its worth, the reserve price is below the restoration costs. The car has never been shown or displayed. I am confident it will make someone very happy. I appreciate you taking the time to view my auction.
