Vehicle Detail
1998 VW Jetta TDI Diesel Manual 133,000 miles I don't know when the timing belt was changed. Pictures found here: HERE Modifications: None, just maintaining stock parts. Engine: 9/10 Clutch: 10/10 Tranny: 10/10 Shifting: 8/10 Body: 8/10 Interior: 9/10 Suspension: 7/10 The good -Fuel injection timing just tuned. -Ignition switch just replaced. -Regularly maintained (since I have owned it) -Minimal rust (doors, not main body) -Runs like a champ -new oil and filter/ new tranny fluid/ new fuel filter/ new air filter -Good amount of tire tread -Average MPG: 45 -Front completely aligned (all 3 parts of the alignment). -Not a mystery box. I look for problems, can't afford to fix everything, but I would be very surprised if something else is wrong with it other than what I am listing. The bad -Throwing the code "Glow plug monitoring intermittent", Most likely the glow plug harness ($50) and if that isn't it the "180" relay ($35). This won't be an issue until the winter comes back around but even so i made it through 75% of the winter without even knowing about it, and I obviously didn't fix it so it clearly isn't the biggest issue in the world. -Throwing the code "Intake manifold pressure intermittent". DON'T GET SCARED! It is 1 of 2 issues: Bad n75 or dirty turbo. I am testing these out now and will probably have it figured out by the time the auction is over. Without the cel on, you would never know. -The front left (?maybe right?) axle boot is pretty rough. The grease needs to be cleaned out with new grease put in, and then the boot needs to be replaced ($15). -I just had it aligned, I got to see the readings too, so the front is completely done but the rear needs to be shimmed. It has drum brakes in the rear so the dealership can do it for $150. -Cracked windshield. ($150 installed with glass). -Air bag wiring gone ($30). The airbag is still in the steering wheel but the wires that set it off are not installed. It got all f-d up when I replaced the ignition switch so I just ripped it all out. Easily replaceable, maybe an hour and your done, take it to a dealer and it would be a half hour fix. If I didn't need the money I wouldn't sell this because it is the most dependable car I have ever had. These TDI(s) are animalistic cars as far as durability and endurance. 133k miles is barely even broke in! It might seem like there is a lot wrong with this car but its really not. I am just being honest. A dealer wouldn't even tell you these things. I know because these problems were like this when I bought it and I wasn't told. It still was an awesome buy though. Anybody who ever says that there isn't anything wrong with their car is either lying, or doesn't know anything about their car. I know that these cars are so simple that you would have to be really uneducated to not understand what is wrong with it. I need to sell this faster than I can fix the problems so that is why I am selling it as is. I drive it everyday and it drives fine. I just respect that if you are going to buy this, that you probably want to know exactly what is going on. You deserve to know exactly how non-mysterious this car is. I promise this will be one of the best cars you have ever owned.
