Vehicle Detail

1971 Ford F100 Custom 14,000 Original Miles 360 V8, Automatic, Long Bed This truck was special ordered by the original owner and he meticulously cared for it for 40 years. Not many options but fantastic original condition and period correct add ons. The reserve is set to sell so bid to own and bid with confidence. The truck comes with many documents to verify that it was actually driven as low as just a few hundred miles every year since new. The truck was fortunate to survive with only a few scratches, chips, and one small ding, and all could be touched up but they only add character to this fine truck. Pride in ownership and perfect climate has kept this truck in fantastic gently used condition. The truck was meticulously cared for by the original owner who took delivery of his special order truck in September 1970. The owner placed many tags with dates and miles on the truck for service work he performed in the first 20 years. The truck has many records and registration papers documenting dates and miles for almost every year from new to 2008 when the truck was last registered. All by the same owner for 40 careful years. The truck has all of its original paint finishes, interior, and rubber seals. The original paint has a fantastic shine inside and out. Even the paint in the bed is in great shape. There are a few rock chips and a couple of scratches that could be touched up to make the paint perfect but I chose to keep it untouched. I used an electric paint meter to check all the surfaces for any repair work and found that all the paint has a thickness of 1.5 to 2 mills thick as expected for original paint. The only finish I can find on the truck that is not factory original is the overspray on the rear frame rails when the mud flaps had been added and then painted in place. The interior is also in fantastic condition and one of the seat belts is still in the original plastic sleeve. The only areas on the interior showing any use is the painted door panels show chips from when the seat belts had been allowed to hit the door when removed. Also, the black paint on the sides of the seat back hinge has flaked off in spots. All the rubber seals and bump stops are soft and pliable. All original glass is in great condition, even the wipers are the original Trico’s. All the original chrome on the front bumper and trim is in fantastic condition with deep shine and no fogging or aging. The only trim showing any age is the grille shell with just fine scratches and a few rock chip marks to the anodized aluminum. The plastic signal lenses and marker lenses are solid, shiny and clear and show no signs of age. There are three original Ford tags that I found when I was cleaning the truck. One on the horn for the radiator fluid, one on the power steering box checking it off as safe to drive and one on the side of the transmission. The spare tire also has the original markings and the manufactures sticker. I don’t think this truck has been wet many times or these tags would be in very poor condition. The tags are not perfect but they are a great indicator of the excellent road conditions when the truck was driven. The original owner added the electric brake under the steering column, the mud flaps, tow package, trans cooler and the topper shell so he could take the truck camping with a pull trailer. The owner’s son told me they only took the truck camping a few times and they used the truck once to move across town, other than that his dad would get the truck out once a month to drive around the block to keep it fresh. The bad… The prior owner did change the tires, belts, hoses, water pump and exhaust. His once a month drive to keep things loose did cause moisture to rust out the exhaust. There is battery spatter on the front inner fender from what looks like an over charged battery. The paint on the wheels has a few scratches and marks from when the tires had been replaced. The transmission does leak a little and there are signs of oil seepage on the side of the motor (probably from the valve cover gasket). The original paperwork was kept in a file folder, but sadly the daughter tossed them out. Gas receipts and other documents luckily had been stored in the truck so the history can be followed. This link will take you to almost 200 photos from all areas of the truck but these photos don’t do the truck justice. http://s1223.photobucket.com/albums/dd502/1971FordF100/ The seams in many of the body panels look poor in the photos but they are actually just dirty. I was worried about scrubbing on them and damaging the paint but I have since learned that WD40 easily cleans these areas without any damage. You have to see this truck to appreciate its clean originality and the factory flaws that you don’t see in the over restored vehicles at the car shows and Concourse events. With a little more cleaning, touch up and restoring some items back to original (like the hoses and tires) this truck could easily score high numbers in judged events, but the truck shows fantastic as is. I placed the truck in the Autorama a few weeks ago, and though the show is for hot rods, the truck was a big hit. Most people thought the truck was very well restored and they were amazed to find out that it was actually a well cared for original. The truck runs and drives fantastic and could be driven across the country but to keep it clean and nice, I would recommend it be shipped in an enclosed trailer. The truck is for sale locally so I reserve the right to end auction early. Due to poor bidders, I also reserve the right to delete bidders with poor feedback. Please do not bid if you have low or no feedback history without contacting me first to prequalify for bidding.
