Vehicle Detail

This 1954 Mercury Monterey was acquired by me from the original owner, a life long gas station owner in Fillmore, CA. This car is a true survivor with numbers matching, engine & transmission ( does not run ) , original upholstry, paint & I believe the mileage at 93,188 to be correct. As you will see in the pictures the car sat for many years and 5 of the 6 windows have been broken by vandals, other than that the car is amazingly clean & a excellent candidate for restoration. The body has only minor rust ( please see pictures ), the trunk & floor pans have only surface rust, and we have taken out the interior to give you a clear view of the trunk & floor pans untouched. 'The surface rust on the floor pans, in all cases is minor, there are no holes in the floor pans whatsoever. There are 3 minor spots of body rot in the lower panels where drains have been pluged & held water & there is some rust around the top along the edge of drip rails but nonE on the top that are rotted through. Other than that the car has few dents, ( please see pictures ) and the overall condition of the metal chrome is quite amazing. There are no chrome pieces damaged beyond repair whatsoever, all chrome flaws are minor & every factory piece of chrome is still on the car. The original interior of the vechicle is still intact but needs to be reupholstered, all door panels, window cranks, & door handles are still in place & the dash is almost flawless but needing restoration. All original controls, radio, clock, steering wheel & dash panels are in tact. Spare tire, bumper jack etc. are still with the car. All window chrome that surround the broken windows is all intact and basically undamaged. The car still has its factory spot light which is still mechanically operational, grill & bumpers are in amazing condition as well as the original 4 Mercury Head embossed hub caps, and the car still sports its original black & gold license plates! The hood is almost perfect including the chrome hood ornament, however, both hood hinges are damaged from not being lubricated and will need to be replaced. I have the hood disconected from the hinges to insure no damage to the hood itself. All engine components are still in tact including the oil bath air cleaner, and the radiator looks to be in quite good condition. The underside of the car is amazingly free of rust & there is no frame damange. The car maintains its original stance, which was a little high in the nose. It is currently missing a driver side door handle & the right rear tail light is broken, but I have replacements for each of those parts. The car even has its factory Mercury Head embossed plastic windshield washer bottle in tact. Please feel free to e-mail me with thoughts & questions. My personal goal for the car was to restore the body and adapt the body to a Lincoln Mark VIII air ride suspension & running gear including engine & trans as well as Lincoln Mark VIII interior complete with dash, stereo & electronics. Should that option interest you I also have a low mileage, late model Lincoln Mark VIII donor car ( not part of this auction ) Thanks & Good Luck, Tom
