This 1956 Pontiac Wagon is the rarest of the rare when it comes to 50's wagons. Designated as a Chieftain Series 27 Star Chief Safari Custom 2 Door wagon this vehicle is 1 of 4,042 originally built. When compared to 214,446 Ford Station Wagons, and 7,886 Nomad wagons not including Chevy's variety of additional wagons their production output was over 150,000 various wagons with each model represented, Pontiac Wagons still only totaled less then 25% of Chevy's production. With this particular model only achieving a mere 4,042 units. Only 200 Engines were equipped with the powerful 2-4 Carburetor set up, equipped with a 317ci Dual quad V8 out put was 285hp, this '56 Safari Wagon is a grocery getter with plenty of pep.
The vehicle has undergone a complete frame off restoration to the highest standards and shows nice at all events. The vehicle is finished in Avalon Blue and White with Matching Blue and White Leather interior vehicle is Coded with VK Alcon Blue and Gray and 278 Trim Blue Leather. Matching as close to the original colors as possible the car was restored to stock condition.
The vehicle is powered a 317 V8 with Dual Quad 285hp Special High Performance engine and coupled to a automatic transmission. The vehicle is equipped with Power Steering for ease of driving. The vehicle sits on a beautiful set of original wheels with hub caps and beauty rings, also equipped with fender skirts and bumper guards are in excellent condition.
The highly desirable 317 V8 with dual quads. The out put of the new Nascar Engine was 285hp and was tested for 0-60 in 11 seconds, Experts estimate only 200 engines were built this power plant was primarily intended for professional stock cars, but found its way into amateur drag racing in the day. This engine has been professionally rebuilt and runs better then new. The vehicle is very fast for its era and is a fun exciting fifties cruiser to drive and enjoy.
This is an extremely rare wagon given its power plant and it is a Pontiac Star Chief Series 27 Safari 2 dr wagon of which only 4,042 were built. Do not hesitate or miss out this car came out of a large collection important collection of vintage cars and doesn?t come up for sale very often, you may never have another opportunity to buy this car and we have never seen one equipped with such a power plant. "Just to answer the question posed by Rick, my Safari was not originally optioned with the 285-hp engine. It was "half"-upgraded. I had obtained a fairly complete 285-hp motor (with the HY block stamp) which had been pulled out of a 55 GMC pickup (even had GMC valve covers on it!), obviously not its original birthplace. Under severe time and budget constraints, I rebuilt the top end only and put it on my stock '56 Safari block (basically no appreciable difference) along with new cam and lifters. I had to fabricate the RH valve cover and generator bracket, and did a little metal work on the valley cover, vent tube, and on a 56 Caddy air cleaner, but when all was said and done it was a pretty accurate representation, primarily due to the correct heads, carbs, gas lines, linkage, and dual-point distributor. The car was sold in early 1986 --- and seen once or twice. Len"

All sales are final. Once The San Diego Collection releases the item for shipping, it is the buyers responsibility to protect against any damages.

Calif. residents are required by state law to pay state tax and license fees. Purchaser will pay for any and all shipping costs. We are willing to assist in finding a shipping agent, we have several we are confident with. Any vehicle purchased in California and not shipped on a commercial carrirer out of state is subject to Tax, and All Dmv Fees associated. If a buyer buys a car and hauls it on his own trailer enclosed or open the transaction is also subject to Sales Tax and DMV fees. If a buyer buys a car and wishes to drive the vehicle home we are required to collect california sales tax. Sales tax is non-refundable for any reason.
