No holes are cut in the dash nor are any holes cut for the speakers. This Chevy has had a magnificent professional expensive ground-up restoration. It is ready to show and drive...I drove this car a few days ago and I would not hesitate to drive it coast to coast. The body is very straight and no sign of any accidents or having been rusty prior to being restored. The doors, hood and trunk fit beautiful and the chrome and paint is gorgeous. The interior seats, carpeting and door panels are new and are correct for a 1956 Chevy BelAir. The headliner is also new. The dash looks greats and all the gauges work as they should. The engine compartment and trunk are beautifully detailed. This car starts up immediately, idles smooth,is very quiet & shifts perfectly. General Motors spent some $40 million to make the 1956 Chevrolets as visually different as possible within the context of mild face lifting. It was an expensive alteration that, in general, bulked up the body. But careful attention was paid by designers to insure the car did not look 'heavy,' and that its basic simplicity of line was preserved. And despite an industry-wide drop in production, Chevy's market share actually rose to 27.9%. Chevrolet division of General Motors produced the Bel Air series from 1953 through 1975. The 1956 Bel Air is among the most recognizable American car of all time. The Bel Air was roomy, fuel-efficient, and had tastefully restrained tail fins and chrome which was seen as vastly superior to the oversized and over decorated full-size models produced in pervious years. Distinctive two-tone body side treatments on Bel Airs imparted a look of motion with graceful front and rear wheel openings which completed the graceful styling. This Bel Air has its original factory 170 horsepower V8, 265 cubic-inch engine. It has a two bbl carburetor and originally a single exhaust. When this gorgeous car was restored, dual exhausts were added as an upgrade along with the Bel Air chrome tail pipe extensions. The Bel Air was priced between $2,025 and $2,608. Chevrolet produced 128,000 two door hardtops models. The Bel Air Series consisted of a two and four-door sedan, sport coupe and a convertible coupe. Everything that was standard on the lower priced series was standard on the Bel Air, plus so much more including comfort, convenience and styling options. There was a one-piece curved windshield which added superb visibility. The luggage compartment was massive and the 115-inch wheelbase provided plenty of interior room for its occupants. The 115-horsepower Blue-Flame six-cylinder engine was new and the most powerful engine in Chevrolet's history. In 1954, the Bel Air was launched as a 1955 model and brought with it a fresh new, elegant look for Chevrolet. With bold features that included hooded headlights, tail fins, wrap-around windshield, and rear fender skirts, the Bel Air was able to out-style the competition. The base engine was a six-cylinder, 115 horsepower power-plant. At a base price of $1095, it was a bargain. It is considered America's first low-priced 'hardtop coupe'. The most famous of the Bel Air engine options was the 283 cubic-inch V-8 small-block, with Ramjet Fuel injection. It delivered one horsepower per cubic inch, a first for production cars. Along with style, the Bel Air was a fast machine. Chevrolet quickly ascertained a reputation for building performance vehicles. 1956 Chevy Specifications The 1955 to 1957 Chevrolet cars represent the peak of Chevy automobile design to many car enthusiasts and collectors. In a time of unprecedented prosperity in American history, car manufacturing companies could afford to spend 40 million dollars to almost completely redesign the style of each year's new model. The automobile factories retooled the assembly lines to produce a new look for each year's cars. The 1956 Chevy's are some of the most desirable and recognizable cars in American history. Body Styles The 1956 Chevrolets, one of the high points of American car styling, were roomy vehicles with clean lines. The cars were available as the entry-level 150 model, Series 1500 which came as the Handyman Station Wagon, a two or four-door sedan and a Utility sedan. The mid-line 210 designation, Series 2100 cars were offered as a Townsman, Handyman or Beauville station wagon, the Delray coupe, a two or four-door sedan and a two or four-door sport sedan. The top of the line Bel Air Series 2400 was available as the Beauville or Nomad station wagon, a two or four-door sedan, a two or four-door sport coupe or as a convertible. Engines The 1956 Chevys came with an in-line 235.5 cubic-inch six-cylinder, or a 256.07 ci V8 engine. The Super Turbo Fire V8 was an overhead valve motor with hydraulic lifters and a two-barrel, four-barrel or dual four-barrel downdraft type Rochester carburetors. Its bore and stroke was 3 and 3/4 inches by 3 inches with an 8:1 compression ratio. It produced 162 horsepower at 4,400 rotations per minute with 257 foot-pounds of torque at 2,200 rpm. The six-cylinder engine's bore and stroke was 3 and 9/16 inches by 3 and 15/16 inches. It produced 140 hp at 4,200 rpm with 210 foot-pounds of torque at 2,400 rpm. Chassis The 1956 Chevrolets had Fisher bodies with styling by General Motors design head, Harley Earl. The cars featured two-tone paint jobs with lots of chrome-plated trim, modest tail-fins and contoured wheel openings. The cars had standard helical three-speed manual transmissions with a singe-plate dry-disc clutch or an optional two-gear automatic Powerglide. The Chevy's had hydraulic drum brakes and all four wheels and used a semi-reversible re circulating ball steering gear. The front suspension was an independent ball joint type with coil-springs. The rear suspension used semi-elliptical leaf-springs. The cars featured a thermostat controlled centrifugal pump cooling system with a cellular radiator and had a single-pipe exhaust system. Dimensions The 1956 Chevy's all had a 115 inch wheelbase. Most of the body styles were 197.5 inches long. The station wagons had an overall length of 200.8 inches. The weight of the different model cars was close to 3.200 pounds. The station wagons weighed in at 3,200 to 3,500 pounds. The most common body style, the Bel Air four-door sedan was 73.7 inches wide, 62.1 inches tall with a front track of 58 inches and a rear 58.9 inch rear track. A full-width grill, redesigned front and rear fenders, gas cap behind the left taillight, larger rectangular parking lights, and sweeping side trim were just a few of the changes that set the 1956 Chevrolet apart from the 1955, which had taken the country by storm with its all new body re-design. o For the performance-minded public, the 1956 Chevrolet offered three 265 cubic-inch Turbo-Fire V-8 engine options: base 170 hp, 205 hp 4 bbl and the 225 hp dual 4 bbl. Chevrolet produced 1,574,740 cars in the 1956 model year, of which 41,268 were Belair Convertibles. The 3,320 pound car cost $2,443 with the base V-8. You could literally load your new Chevy with factory options and accessories and stay under $3,000. "The Hot One is Even Hotter" was the motto that Chevrolet boasted for its 150, 210 and Bel Air series in 1956. With a new Super Turbo Fire V8, the new 1956 promised a friskier, sweeter ride with safer passing. Playing off the success of the previous year redesign, the new 1956 Chevy was met with an appetite of frenzy from the buying public. Chevy debuted its new pillar-less sport sedan to it's top of the line Bel Air series and the mid-line 210 series. Minor changes were made to the 1956, including new engine options, a slightly different dash, a newly hidden gas filler cap in the rear fin, and colors, trim and fabrics. The '56 Chevy was a hit as sales continued to climb. Remember this, 99% of the time if a car was a hit and a sensation with the buying automotive public when it first comes on the scene.....20...30...40...and 50 or more years later, it still will be very popular and will be a highly sought-after collectable car than will continue to increase in value. My Son is 28 and from an entirely different generation than my generation. I grew up in the 50's and 60's where cars were king!...but he loves the cars from the 50's and 60's...especially the Chevy's, Caddy's, Old's, Pontiacs , Buick's, Fords, Lincoln's, Chryslers, Plymouths and Dodges....which pretty much covers most American cars. The more the chrome....the bigger the fins...and the more the muscle...the more he loves these cars. Here is a trip back in time to the late and great 1950's and 1960's ..Hope you "Enjoy the ride" Welcome to "Cars from Dreams"..... You've found the place for car buffs, car lovers, car aficionados, for guys and girls.... from 8 to 88 and even beyond. If your among the nearly 200 million Americans who still have an ongoing love affair with the automobile... WELCOME... and should you happen to be from a country other than the U.S........ your equally welcome! Little did Daimler realize just how much his tiny one cylinder motorized bike was going to change the world when invented in the mid 1890's. This motorized bicycle was refined and eventually became the 1st automobile. (one cylinder) and his company became known as Daimler/Benz. (Mercedes Benz) (DaimlerChrysler today) James Dean Step back with us for a return to the middle of the twentieth century... The late, great fabulous 1950's...It was a wonderful time, offering so many new beginnings, as the terrible memories of World War II began to gradually fade and the dreams of our returning heroes and soldiers, as well as their families, could now be fully realized. With the promise of a lasting world peace, came the hope of prosperity and tranquility...all of which was soon to become a reality. Elvis "An Age of Innocence" The Fabulous Fifties was an "age of innocence" and as a young man growing up during this period, a guy would consider himself to be "lucky" if he was able to hold a girl's hand on their first date. If he got a peck on the cheek by their third date, well.... he knew they were made for each other! It was an age of integrity and trust. One could actually leave your front and rear door unlocked and your car keys in your ignition... and when you returned, nothing would be missing. "The Rock n' Roll Era and the The Drive-In Craze" Book by Michael Karl Witzel Book by Don and Susan Sanders In the 1950's life was less complex and perhaps a little slower. People actually took time to wave from their convertibles to friends and to even smile to a stranger and even give a friendly "Hello" to a passerby. Remember those great nights at the local drive-in restaurant or those "make-out" sessions at the local drive-in movie theater. And the term "Parking" took on a whole new meaning. By the mid 1950's Rock n' Roll had burst onto the scene. Both new cars and souped-up hot rods had become part of the youth culture. The entertainment industry, not to be left out, brought out countless low-budget movies that brought teens to the drive-in movies by the thousands. By the early 1960's songs such as the Beach Boy's "409" and "Little Duece Coupe", The Ripchords "Hey Little Cobra" Jan & Dean's "Drag City" and Ronny and the Daytona's " GTO" were riding high on the charts. Our love affair with the Automobile was in "full bloom." A few days prior to the new model cars being shown to the public, most new car dealerships would cover their showroom windows with brown paper. Many times I recall try to catch a peek or a glimpse of the new models.... The American Public could hardly wait to see what new and exciting creations were about to be offered by Detroit. It is these very cars... the Cars from Dreams, that we will feature and reminisce about... and every month we will offer stories and memories of these great "Cars from Dreams."... as well as offering the very best examples for sale. The cars of the 50's and 60's for the most part had "personality!" The great Chevys, Pontiacs, Cadillacs, Buicks and Oldsmobiles helped make GM a world leader and giant of the auto world. Ford produced fabulous cars including Ford Thunderbirds, Lincolns and Mercurys. Chrysler offered all those incredible Mopars... Plymouths, Desoto, Dodges, and Chrysler. 1959 Cadillac Brochure Cover Competition was fierce, but other marquees like Studebaker, AMC, Nash, Kaiser, Hudson, Muntz, Tucker, Avanti, etc. tried to capture a piece of this huge exploding marketplace. Unfortunately, they didn't have the dollar and staying power to compete with the "Big Three." As the 1960's drew to a close, cars began to change. New EPA requirements and increasing prices for gasoline hasten the demise of the "Muscle" car. The horsepower race came to an end by the early 1970's.... at least for a while. In 1976 Cadillac crushed the molds to build their last Convertible... the Cadillac Eldorado. They theorized that the American buying public didn't really want convertibles anymore and that production numbers were too small to bother with manufacturing "open air" cars. Boy were they wrong! Heinz Prechter seized the opportunity to custom make convertibles for most manufacturers and ASC (American Sunroof Corporation) exploded with orders and sales. So what exactly is it that makes us lust after those "Cars From Dreams?" Simple.... it's the memories, the happy times..... those great times from our youth and the freedom to go where we wanted...when we wanted... with whom we wanted...and in a car that was a ball to drive. It's where Johnny took Mary on their 1st date! It's so easy to spot a "Car From Dreams" on our highways today... just look for someone motoring down the street with a huge grin on their face. Today our hobby is pursued by guys and girls alike...it's just not a "guy" thing anymore and I think that's great. There are enough great memories to go around for everyone. How big is the car-collecting hobby? No one really knows for sure. However, there are several million cars that have been preserved or restored and our hobby is expanding... not shrinking.... and with sixty million "Baby Boomers" with disposal income and spendable dollars out there... the prices will continue to escalate. The nice thing about our hobby today, as opposed to the wild speculation on vintage cars that occurred throughout the 1980's is that these cars are being driven and enjoyed... not just been stored away in warehouses and garages. So celebrate with us as we embark on the next fifty years and if you feel compelled to exclaim "Hubba Hubba" or a loud "Hooray" as we reminisce with these "Cars From Dreams"... it's perfectly acceptable! eBay recommended services · History Report - get a vehicle history report and protect yourself from hidden problems · Shipping - get free shipping quotes and information on options to pick up this vehicle · Financing - learn about lending choices · Buyer Checklist - review steps to take to make a safe, successful purchase AS IS - NO WARRANTY This vehicle is being sold as is, where is with no warranty, expressed written or implied.
