Vehicle Detail

Hello, thanks for checking out my auction. You are viewing a 1979 Mercedes-Benz 300D in excellent condition. Please read the listing carefully and check out the video and 60+ photos that are available. I have 100% feedback so please have confidence in bidding on this beautiful car. I am listing this vehicle for an elderly couple; wife wants it out of the driveway! This car is a ONE OWNER, they purchased the vehicle brand new and had it manufactured and shipped to the Mercedes dealership where they lived in New York. It was garage kept most of it's life and mainly driven by the wife to and from work or out on the town. This is a non-smoker vehicle. It feautures the bulletproof OM617 inline 5-cylinder diesel making 87 horsepower and 125 lb-ft torque. It just did an oil change with Mobil Delvac 1300 15w40 oil, and amazingly did not see any leaks which is very rare for these cars. The car goes down the road smooth, although a little slow due to the lack of turbo. It may need an alignment soon, as the steering wheel is not centered when driving straight. I didn't sense any shakes from the wheel or funny noises and it steers just fine so it is not that urgent. Exterior: The body and paint on this car are gorgeous. It has the original yellow paint with a beautiful shine. There are a couple small rust spots I took pictures of to be as thorough as possible. You can view the pictures below. All of the chrome still shines. The bumpers, the mouldings, the grille, etc. All of the lights work- directionals, headlights, taillights. The wheels are in good shape and the tires are 195/70/14 with a generous 90% tread remaining with no cracks or dry-rot. The two front tires are Dayton Quadra SE, the two rears are Prime well PS850. Again these are like new and won't require replacing for quite some time. Check out the undercarriage pictures; VERY clean with no rust. Interior: Let me first start by saying... There are NO CRACKS in the dashboard! This car features a beautiful brown interior. All leather is in great condition. The only issue I found was on the driver's seat. A few threads are fraying on the seam of the bolster and a quarter-size seperation on the seat-back, you can see these in the picture of the driver's seat. A very very easy fix. It has power windows, doorlocks, cruise control (works great!) and a large sunroof that opens and closes with no problems. The factory stereo has been replaced with a Jensen tape deck with AM/FM radio and works great. The driver's side rear window does not go up or down, I assume this is a problem with the motor. All the other windows work just fine. The headliner is in great condition with the exception one side between the sunroof. This is pictured. The cargo nets behind the seats still have slack! They aren't stretched and hanging freely like most you see these days. All doorpanel leather is in great condition. The interior handles have a sort of oxidation on them... I am sure a little cleaning can brighten them up. One of the woodgrain panels have a small crack, and there is a small wood panel about 3'' in between the glovebox and passenger door which is missing. Getting into this car is like stepping into a time capsule. Still has that old Mercedes smell and comfortable supportive seats. Engine/ Mechanical: The diesel 5 cylinder runs excellent. I took a video of the car running and this was after 6 months of sitting. It has since had new diesel put in and the oil change and runs even smoother. As previously stated I did not detect any leaks afterwards. The car could probably benefit from new fuel filters. The coolant was green and full, and the ATF full with a nice red hue. Please note: The odometer stopped working a few years back. It stopped on 67,895 and the owner is adamant that the vehicle has been driven sparingly since then and has no more than 80,000 TRUE miles. Judging by the condition of the car, I have no reason to doubt this claim. The car is A/C equipped but owner states it has a bad compressor. I turned the A/C on and did not hear the compressor kick in. Also, I think the shifter cable may be a little worn due to the fact that you have to put the car in in park with a little bit of force to get it into park. When you move the gear selector to neutral, it goes into reverse. When you put it into D, it goes into neutral and so-on. Seems like an easy fix and doesn't affect the driveability of the car. Did I mention the cruise control on this car still works? Bidders with 0 feedback: Contact me before bidding or your bid will be cancelled! Payment: Cash, money order, or cashier's check. Please check out the video and pictures. They speak for themselves: This was before the oil change and fresh gas. Wow. Look at the condition of the chrome. You can see the spots of surface rust next to the trunklid; This was caused by a roofing company knocking the car with a ladder while walking by. A closer picture is provided below. Small bubbling going on underneath the right rear passenger glass. This was one of the rust spots I mentioned in the description. This is on the right side rear quarter panel. This is a close up of the scrape caused by a roofing company knocking the car with a ladder that I mentioned earlier. The sunroof opens/ closes with no problems. Again, the chrome is in excellent condition. The hood... Look at that paint, it almost looks wet. You can see the fraying on the lower part of the bolster. Easily fixed with a needle and some thread. This was the spot on the headliner I was talking about. Look at the dash... No cracks! I will re-glue the glovebox woodgrain piece... But you can see the small panel missing that I described. The cargo nets- They are still tight! The motor has solid oil pressure and remained cool at idle. This is the rust located behind the driver's side rear wheel. Still has the factory Mercedes-Benz toolkit and jack! The coolant hoses were not in bad shape but were replaced by the owner anyways. All the tires are like new! Original owner's manual, service books, and engine diagram booklet. Bidders with 0 feedback: Contact me before bidding or your bid will be cancelled! Payment: Cash, money order, or cashier's check.
