Vehicle Detail
1963 Studebaker Avanti R2 2D Coupe This car is sure to attract the curious and a great find for Studebaker lovers! Confirmed by the block code to be an Avanti R2 coupe, this vehicle was built by the factory to be supercharged. The car runs well however it does not currently have its original supercharger installed; a new R3 supercharger in the box will be included with the sale. Its condition can be described as a nice “5-footer” in good but not pristine condition. Other than being repainted, the car appears to be original with a very nice interior that is easily the strongest part of the car and no signs of distress to the fiberglass body. The car does appear to have some fluid leakage so the engine bay is in need of a good detailing. The car was most recently driven to car shows and in car runs. Equipment (per appraiser’s inspection) V-8, automatic transmission, power steering, power brakes, American Racing mag wheels, AM radio, tint, power windows, (includes new R3 Supercharger in box) Body: Very Good – fiberglass is in good shape, decent panel fit. Paint: Good – repainted in a non-original color with some chipping, overspray, tape lines Exterior Trim: Good— Trim is intact, not dinged but shows some normal wear and tear. Bumpers: Very Good – good condition, need polishing. Glass: Very Good – generally good although front directional lenses are crazed. Door & Window Seals: Good –seals are old but serviceable Tires & Wheels: Fair/Good-- Tires are Dunlop Gold Cup, 7.75 X 15 bias ply, about 4 to 5/32nds remaining on tread. Wheels are American Racing mags in good condition; it does not have the original hubcaps. Flooring: Good –but needs clean up. Seating: Very Good – Clean with good padding and no tears. Nice. Door Panels: Very Good Instrument Panel Face/Gauges/Dashpad: Very Good Headliner: Very Good – a few glue spots on edges Interior Metal/Wood Trim: Good/Very Good – some chips on chrome throughout. Engine (visual): Fair/Good – reported to run well but visually has peeling paint and leaked fluid. The car needs a battery. Suspension & Chassis Underside: Unrestored, oil stains in engine and transmission areas. Trunk Area: Good – needs some clean up This is a trust sale--the original owner has died but this vehicle has a clear title and will be sold by the successor trustee. The successor trustee does not live where the vehicle is located so; finalization of the sale could take a couple of weeks due to travel requirements. On Mar-22-11 at 10:41:30 PDT, seller added the following information: Check out my other items! _______________________________________________________________________________________________________ After receiving several questions about the condition of the “hog troughs” I want to apologize that I simply have no idea in what condition they are. I had never even heard of “hog troughs” before this auction but, have researched them and will take pictures under the car as soon as I am able. I do not live in California where the car is located so, the soonest I will be able to investigate their appearance is this coming weekend. The family inherited this car but has never heard of any issue with the frame or undercarriage. An appraiser was hired to evaluate the car’s condition; this is exactly what he reported about the undercarriage and overall grading of the car: Suspension & Chassis Underside: Unrestored, oil stains in engine and transmission areas. The chassis underneath looks unrestored and suggests the car's actual age. This car is graded by the appraiser to be about a #3/3- (meaning its class of condition is ‘Good Clean Average, “Nice Car”’), a “clean functional driver” with a few needs.
