Vehicle Detail
You know what this car is or you wouldn't be looking, so I won't bore you with a recital of obscure facts and figures! This rare pony has been a member of our stable for 8 years, but now its time for it to join another herd. We are the 4th owners of this vehicle, which has spent its entire life in the county of San Diego, California. This car is identified in the very first edition of the GTCS Registry, and we have traced the chain of ownership since it was sold new 10 miles from our house. Interestingly, it has been not just adult-owned, but female-owned, for the majority of its life. I'm sure I don't need to explain the benefits of that... We have three folders full of receipts for repairs and restoration parts throughout the life of the car, and these will go to the new owner. If nothing else, the Barrett-Jackson Auction spectacle has taught classic car enthusiasts that value is directly related to documentation. This California Special is undeniably authentic and well-preserved--its not a barn find or junkyard derelict, tarted up just to be flipped on eBay at a profit. Nothing would prevent the next owner from driving and enjoying this Mustang in its current condition. The 289 2V engine and C-4 transmission were both rebuilt 8000 miles ago, all gauges and electrical are functional, and the brakes work as well as drum brakes ever do. It was driven, not trailered, 350 miles to participate in the GTCS 40th Anniversary celebration at Galpin Ford outside of Los Angeles and it performed with gusto. That said, its not a perfect car. The left front fender has a small ding from something falling off the garage shelf years ago, and there's a spot of rust in the left rear wheel opening. Its had one repaint which was not show quality, although a cut-and-buff might help. The factory floors are amazing, but the underside of the car is not detailed. It has the typical front suspension squeak, and in the future it will want tires and a muffler. Occasionally there is a whirring noise when the gearshift is put into reverse, although it always engages the gear--my '68 Shelby used to do the same thing, but nothing ever broke so we don't spend sleepless nights over it. I should point out to the purists that to be strictly correct this car would not be wearing the GT wheels and gas cap, although those are real Ford parts and not reproductions. Likewise, the rear valance with exhaust cutouts is an upgrade to GT trim after the fact. A new set of quad exhaust tips will go with the car--your choice whether to use them or not when the time comes. Regardless, all the GTCS-specific parts are present and appear to be original to the car, including the proper Lucas foglights. This is a solid vehicle with pedigree and upside potential, worthy of being taken to the next level if you so desired. It has a clear title and current California registration. The data plate decodes as follows: BODY 65A = 2 door hardtop/bucket seats TRIM = Black vinyl COLOR = Lime gold DATE 13C = March 13, 1967 DSO 71 = Los Angeles TRANS W = C-4 automatic AXLE 2 = 2.79:1 The car matches the data plate in every respect. This vehicle might have sold for close to $25K before the economy tanked, but we have set a MUCH more modest reserve! The GTCS Mustangs will always be rare and valuable--in any economy--and this is clearly the time to invest. I've described the car as accurately as possible to avoid any disappointments for the new owner. If anything else is wrong with this vehicle it would be a bigger surprise to us than to you. Your questions are welcomed, and feel free to let me know if you need a photo of some specific part of the car. Please don't bid without your finances in order and the blessing of your significant other, if needed. A $500 non-refundable deposit is required of the winning bidder through Paypal within 48 hours of auction end, and a cashier check for the balance within 7 days. The car stays in our garage until the funds are clear. Transport arrangements and costs are the responsibility of the buyer. Thanks for looking, and good luck!
