Vehicle Detail

Here is a very original and complete example of a classic and desireable body style. This car has power steering ,desirable 4 speed manual ,and rare to find air conditioning . Everything functions as it should and it runs and drives great, it can be used as a daily driver, but would be a great one to restore,as that was our intensions when we purchased the car almost ten years ago. This car has a super straight and solid body that has not been slicked up or worked over. There are no creaks or groans everything fits and clunks like a mercedes should. It apears to have been painted twice, once silver in the late 70s and then back to red around 1990, it is an original red car with black interior. The car was originally ordered and delivered in Spain to a US armed forces officer, who then brought the car home with him. The second owner was known to our family and the car stayed in Nashville TN untill the late 1980s .Then was purchased by a private collector, who owned it untill his death, in a small TN town near its currant location of Cookeville TN. To bring the car back to driving condition we have cleaned the fuel tank, replaced the fuel pump, replaced all brake and clutch hoses and rebuilt the brake calipers and cylinders. The brakes are great. To my knowledge all the mechanicals are original. One of the hood hing bolts had broken and to remove it required removal of the front fender. At this time we replaced the front crossmember behind the bumper with a new one from M.B.because there was some preforation. There were some small holes also in the bottom of the wheel well bulge forward of the front axle and some new metal was installed along with the front closing pannels for the rocker panels, these were all repaired. All the rest of the chasis, floor and rockers, are very solid and look fine. However In the trunk left wheel well there are two small holes and two under the wiring to the tank sending unit, and one in the left rear rocker closing panel. See the pictures .So here you have an honest car with no fancy paint, body filler , and undercoating hiding its history. And the paint is bad, it is falling off in many places. The car must have been striped to metal and then not completly properly prepped for its last paint. The bumpers and trim are all there and quite presentable for their age, there are some minor dings on the bumpers and some small pits on the top of the rear bumper and front grill. The rubber seals and window strips all should be replaced. In the interior the dash has been refinished and looks great, however the wood on top under the windsheild has the veneer loosening in places. The headliner has a little discoloring but is perfect otherwise. The seats all have their original tired leather bottoms with the tops recovered with vinal in fair condition. The door panels have been similarly repaired, and the carpet looks good. The odometer is in km and does not move, but every thing else on the dash reads correctly. There is a very old blaupunkt radio /casette that works. The tires are very old michelins on the original 13" wheels and look ok, but you may not want to cross the country with them. I will be happy to answer any questions, and I am hoping to find a new owner who will give this car the care that it deserves.
