Vehicle Detail

Where do I start......ok to begin with you should understand what this car was built for. Goto www.24hoursoflemons.com and you'll get an idea of why it looks the way it looks. Yes those are 8-bit Penis on the side, and yes during the race there was a fish tank with live gold fish on the back in place of the trunk. Yes I have daily driven it to work every day since the race was over, and no i've never been pulled over haha. It is perfectly street legal minus the front turn signals that need bulbs (the corner light was removed for airflow to the intake, it is not a turn signal and not needed to pass inspection). It is titled and registered in my name, clear title. It is a VERY reliable car that is extremely comfortable to drive, all the features including heat and power windows still work, and its fairly quiet, gets good gas mileage, great daily driver. Or a race car, it does both. Even has rain/snow tires that did great this winter with the LSD trans. Heres how it came to be: To enter this race you have to spend less than $500 on the car not including tires, brakes, and safety equipment. You also have to create an amusing theme. Our theme was about an anime character named Koga, and one named Bunta, therefore our team name was Koga Bunta Racing. Koga utilized mind control koi fish to seduce young women and then have his way with them. Bunta is an all wise old drifter from Initial D. Now you understand the penis' and live gold fish on the japanese car. I have built 30+ Toyota's so far in my life and such is the spare parts in my garage which allowed us to build this thing for less than $500 (not including all the safety and maint. items). I'm an ASE master tech and a factory trained Toyota technician with a T-TEN degree in automotive technology. This car was build RIGHT. It doesn't look like much but it has it all where it counts, just like the millenium falcon. It meets all the requirements in both the SCCA and the 24hoursofLemons rule books and was raced just last september. Ever since it has been my daily driver and not once has it broken since the race. During the race it lasted 3 hours with out the temp gauge even moving, performed flawlessly until the clutch gave up. Someone had put a cheap autozone clutch in it before I got it which is why it felt new, but it couldn't stand up to the abuse. I replaced the clutch with a high quality japanese unit and have been driving it ever since. Only reason I am selling is that I want to buy some expensive parts for my hummer and have too many cars in my driveway. I feel bad not utilizing all the race gear, someone needs to. Heres the specs: Exterior: All the body panels are straight and the chassis aligned up perfect on the laser alignment rack. I can't see where it has ever been in even a fender bender. The trunk has some dents because we stood on it but other than that there is one small dent on the hood and one small dent by the gas door. There is no chassis rust whatsoever, there is a little rust at the bottom of the passenger rear quarter but nothing serious. The chassis is straight, true, and built like the older Toyota it is. It is missing the front turn signal bulbs in the lower part of the front bumper, I don't know why they removed them but all you have to do is put some bulbs in and you're good. Everything else works like it should, wipers, brake lights, reverse lights, head lights, even has the yellow JDM fog lights in the middle. No chips or cracks in any of the windows and the rear defroster works great. The trunk doesn't have a latch but it stays closed, I just prop it up with a piece of the fish tank setup that was removed after the race. It has Toyota mud flaps and the original wheels, it is missing one of the original center caps but the wheels could easily clean up nicely. Interior/Safety equipment: The interior is pretty much what you'd expect from a race car. I left all the essentials for daily driving. Oh and just FYI the black passenger seat is not bolted in, I just threw it in to give my girlfriend a place to sit if we take this car. All the power windows work great, the controls just stay in the lower part of the doors. The heater works great, the gauges are all quite accurate, and all of the controls for turn signals/wipers are good. The seat is custom, I took the leather and cushions from the original seat and wrapped it around a racing aluminum seat. It is VERY comfortable and adjustable. It does bolt to the cage instead of the floor which is safer, there are adjustment slots to slide it back or forth, currently it is setup for a driver between 6ft and 6-6ft. The steering wheel is adjustable as well, I will include the spanner wrench used to adjust it in or out. The shift knob is from a 1st gen MR2, and the harness is a brand new G-Force 6-point harness mounted to the cage properly. It has an A-B-C fire extinguisher and a steel access hatch to the fuel pump so you don't have to drop the tank if you need to change it. It also has a master kill switch easily accessible from the hood. The roll cage is a totally custom unit built by Bosco Lowe Fabrication. It cost $2000 to have built. Wrapped in high density foam all around the driver it meets or surpasses both SCCA and Lemons spec. The lower bars run the entire length of the chassis "frame" rails to stiffen the entire unibody. 360 degree welds at all joints and spreader plates at stress points. Like I said this is a turn key ready to go race car and a decently comfortable driver. Powertrain/Drivetrain: It is a very easy car to drive. Tracks straight, rides smooth as a caddy but is tight in the corners when you need it to be. It has not been lowered so ground clearance is never an issue. Zero vibrations, very quiet unless you get on it due to the trick Dynomax VT muffler. The engine fires right up in less than 2 seconds every time no matter how cold and runs very smooth. You can't even hear the engine running over the exhaust or cooling fan, there is no valvetrain noise or anything. Hasn't used a drop of coolant ever since I built it, never smokes, and the temp gauge never even gets to half way. Strong oil pressure, has always had Mobil 1 fully synthetic 10w 30 since i've owned it, changed every 3000 miles with a Mobil 1 oil filter. The only problems to speak of is that the brakes squeak a little when cold, the transmission leaks some fluid from the drivers side cv axle seal (real easy to get to and replace, just haven't had time), and sometimes the check engine light comes on for a false o2 sensor code, just turn the key off and back on and it will stay off the rest of the time you're driving. The e-brake works great, the ABS works perfect, the transmission shifts smooth into every gear, and the clutch engages right in the middle like it should. Gets about 25mpg on the highway, 23mpg around town. It has been tuned with zeitronix wide band air/fuel sensor and datalogging setup, the tuning was done with a modified AFM. The only thing I would recommend doing to the engine is install a new o2 sensor, this one works but is old, also it couldn't hurt to do the front valve cover gasket, very easy, I already did the back one. Here's a quick list of what it has had done: JDM carina 2.0xs struts JDM carina 2.0xs springs JDM carina 2.0xs sway bars JDM MR2 turbo LSD E153 transmission New OEM sway bar bushings New OEM front control arms New OEM brake rotors New OEM brake pads Adjusted e-brake shoes New kumho rain/snow tires New OEM outer tie rod ends New OEM drivers wheel bearing New OEM drivers wheel speed sensor New OEM passenger CV axle New OEM passenger CV axle seal New OEM rear main seal New Excedy stage 2 clutch Re-surfaced flywheel Re-man power steering pump K&N drop in air filter Mobil 1 10w 30 fully synthetic oil Mobil 1 oil filter Moroso spiral flow resonator Dynomax VT muffler with active tuning valve All new exhaust pipe from the headers back Synchromesh transmission fluid EGR delete New OEM intake manifold and throttle body gaskets New 180 degree thermostat New OEM coolant cross over pipe gasket New knock sensor and connector New OEM distributor cap and rotor New spark plug wires and Denso plugs on all 6 cylinders All new vacuum hoses secured properly, no leaks ever again hah New OEM timing belt New light weight battery New clutch master cylinder (not installed but will be included) 4 wheel laser alignment There are probably some things that i'm not remembering right now but needless to say it is turn key ready to roll and super reliable.
