I SELL WORLD WIDE! 1970 Mercedes Benz 280SEL FOR YOUR INFORMATION:This is one of my own cars I bought with intentions to restore! I'm closing my shop and loosing my storage, so this one got to go! TITLE INFORMATION:clear, lien free title in hand! THE PICTURES:I have taken numerous pics from the underside of the car, please see all 48 pictures at this link:http://s271.photobucket.com/albums/jj132/clites1/1970%20Mercedes%20280SE/ THE CONDITION: Well, she still needs a few small things like a right mirror, the star on the grille and a paint job but I've done quite a few things already! The motor is running great and the transmission shifts nice and smooth thru all gears. In fact, she drives extremely well and there is no leaking, noise or smoking from either the motor, trans or power steering. The car got a new battery, cap, rotor, wires and plugs a few hundred miles ago (see pics). Belts are brand new. The oil was changed at that time as well. The exhaust system is rock solid with no leaks. All fluids are fresh and up to par. Since the fuel was in there for more than 2 years, I'd recommend it to be drained and filled with fresh gas. The front calipers were a little sticky from sitting, so I installed rebuilt ones with new pads and hardware (see pics). There's no problem with the rear brakes so I just bleed them to get all the old fluid out of the system. Now, the breaks work perfect. There is no excessive play in any of the suspension parts and it looks like the shocks were replaced recently. The tires are OK to drive around town but should be replaced before going on a longer trip at highway speed. the car runs very straight and doesn't pull to any side, even under breaking. Power steering works fine too! The seats are very nice with no rips or tears. Even the carpets are nice but the rubber heel pad on the drivers side which got brittle over the years and started to crack. The same holds true for the rubber mat in the trunk. The car had those plush seat covers that are really comfy, so I put them back in after checking the seats for damage. by the way, the wood in this car is VERY nice, much better than it usually can be found! Usually a problem spot on these, the trunk is as solid as the rest of the car! Another problem spot are the front fenders above the headlights. Again, not on this car! It is the best restorable example I could find after searching for two years! Please see for yourself and study the many pictures I provided from the underside at http://s271.photobucket.com/albums/jj132/clites1/1970%20Mercedes%20280SE/ The only body damage is a small dent in the trunk lid but it's an easy fix. Other than that, the car is as straight as an arrow! The paint is all original and generally nice but it has the typical 'age cracking' (see last picture at above link!). I never seen a glass sunroof on a 1970 car but this car has one! And, it is the original, installed by Mercedes Benz! Of course it works perfectly! As you can see, I have the original jack and tool kit. The tire you see in the place of the spare came of the right rear, I used the spare as that one has a slow leak. The power windows, sunroof, lights, etc. all work fine. So do all the gauges. The PO installed a great sounding KENWOOD AM/FM/CD stereo and upgraded the speakers to ALPINE's in the front and PHASE LINEAR GRAPHITE in the back. Really nice sound! Even though the AC needs charging, it will work after you do so! It still held pressure after sitting for over 2 years and the compressor turns free. Heat is perfect and works in all settings. One more thing: this car had the fuel injected engine which was bad. I installed a 48k/mls engine from a 280S that can be seen in the background of some of the pics. Please e-mail any and all questions you might have! I'll post the answers to the auction for everyone to see (unless they contain your e-mail address or phone number) YOU ARE WELCOME TO INSPECT THE CAR RIGHT HER IN KINGSTON, PA (Luzerne County) Just let me know a day or 2 in advance! THE VERDICT:So, why do I think this is a great candidate for a restoration? Let's look at the biggest enemy of old cars: rust! This car has virtually no rust on the body as you can see in the pictures. Better yet, the floors are as solid as they come! Please look at the pics, they speak for themselves. Considering the rare rust free condition of this car paired with the unsurpassed grace and beauty, this is a great buy by all means! Of course, the smooth power and outstanding handling of this classic automobile is very enjoyable as well! This is a really easy to restore example and the MB 280's are well worth doing it. These are becoming increasingly hard to find, especially in nearly rust free condition! As mentioned earlier/ it took me 2 years of searching to find this car and I'm very disappointed that I can't keep it! i'd love to see her going to a good home!
