Vehicle Detail
Extremely rare opportunity to own one of the true iconic American cars. An immediate sensation, the Town and Country was the car to be seen in. According to Car Collector Magazine, " Total production of the 1949 T & C convertibles, last of the open woodies, was only 1000 cars. Approximately 73 remain today (article dated March, 1982 - author Grogory D. Wells) although the Town and Country Owner's Registry has serial numbers on only 54 cars. The car thus becomes one of the rarest of the postwar Americans." This rare collector's dream is #247 of 1000, with only 64,184 documented miles. It is a rust free California car that was last registered in 1958 and still has the original California plates. It was purchased in 1960 by a collector and stored for 48 years continuously in dry Colorado garage storage. The car was purchased by me in 2008 from the collector's estate and was made road-worthy again. New wide white tires, rebuilt wheel and master cylinder's, new battery, new fuel pump, new hoses, new tailpipe, new carpet and seat covers, new convertible top, with the power top pump having been rebuilt - it works really well. The car starts easily, and runs and drives nice, with no leaks or drips. Lights work, blinkers don't (I have a new blinker assembly that comes with). Original white ash wood that is in excellent condition, all original smooth joints. Original side glass fits great, and rolls up and down well. One windshield has a crack, pot metal trim is good - some pieces are perfect, others have slight pitting - not bad at all. Body is very nice with but a very few small dings and a few small creases. Overall really great shape. No bondo, ever. Paint is an older repaint that still looks okay. The color is cream. This car needs a little TLC, but the returns are tremendous. Totally restored '49 T & C woodie convertibles are bringing in prices of well over $100,000. They didn't make many of these, and very, very few remain outside of serious collections.
