Vehicle Detail
Everything on this truck is either new or rebuilt. Many factory parts were upgraded as well. Mileage is approximately 23 around town and easily 28mpg highway. This is achieved with a small but powerful Isuzu 3.9 liter Turbo Diesel (4BD1) with a custom Garrett turbo install that reliably makes up to 18 pounds of boost. Custom bolt-in engine mounts and a tubular cross-member were used for the install. This was a low miles replacement engine when installed, and it has no mechanical issues whatsoever. The exhaust is a 3” downpipe from the turbo into a flowmaster 40 series, splitting into dual 2.5” pipes at the rear. MBRP stainless tips keep it looking good at the exits. A bell-housing adapter from Isuzu Diesel Swapper was used to mate a rebuilt and strengthened 700R4 transmission. This trans has approximately 5kmi on a rebuild with a shift kit, heavy clutches and a custom Diesel torque convertor. A factory NP208 transfer case sends power to custom driveshafts front and rear. The rear axle has been upgraded with an Eaton Gear-type limited slip differential. New bearings and seals were used, making this a completely rebuilt axle. The drum brakes were replaced with a custom disc brake conversion using Cadillac calipers with a cable type emergency brake. The front axle was dis-assembled and serviced on both corners with bearings, new calipers, brake hoses, pads and rotors. A 3.08 axle ratio was used to utilize the diesel engine’s power curve and low-RPM torque. Wheels are Weld Typhoons in 15X10 with brand new M/T MTZ'S 35” tires with under 200 miles on them. A 4” spring lift makes room for the larger tires, and 4 new stainless Bilstein shocks soften the ride. OffRoad Design HD shackles are used up front along with their Steering box brace and sway bar disconnects for off-road use. This was a Nevada truck until 2003 and has never seen a winter. The rust-free body was stripped to bare metal last year and re-painted the factory two-tone colors. The hard top was sanded, filled and painted to match. The front fenders were re-worked to accommodate the 35” tires without additional lift. Every piece of rubber weatherstripping was replaced with top quality pieces. The interior features all new carpet, captain’s chars from a suburban and custom auto-meter gauges that allow you to fully monitor your vitals including boost, trans temp and EGT. This truck was loaded from the factory with Power windows, door locks, two-tone paint, Silverado trim, Heavy duty cooling, Automatic hubs etc. Everything is fully functional with the exception of A/C and the tachometer. The diesel engine swap has been tested and proven, hauling a car trailer with ease and making efficient, reliable power for cruising down the highway at 80mph if you so choose. there is alot of time and over 30k invested into this K5, its a great summer time show truck(removable top), and also great for commuting or long distance drives considering it gets almost 30 miles to a gallon.
