Vehicle Detail
For Sale is a 1981 Volkswagen Rabbit Diesel 1.6 Currently the car is not running, it turns over but does not start. I bought this from its previous owner back in the summer with the intentions of getting it running but have yet to get around to that project. There is a stack of receipts from the previous owner of all the parts replaced that total into the thousands of dollar range that include, new clutch and flywheel, shifter bushings, timing belt kit, new brake cables, brake lines and hoses, rotors, pads, shoes, wheel cylinders, rebuilt injection pump and re-manufactured injectors, radiator hoses, fuel shut off valve, rear hatch struts, new Fulda Carat Assuro 205/60/14 tires, all filters, alignment, tie rods, new windshield, new CV joints, glow plugs (champion), fan switch, new muffler and catalytic converter, and most recently, cylinder head machined with new head gasket. I'm sure there are more parts I'm forgetting, the previous owner told me everything but the alternator and belt had been replaced. Additionally there are a lot of new parts still in the package and a service manual included in the sale as well. The headliner is missing, the driver's seat has some tears, the car needs a bath and to be cleaned. It has a new Pioneer CD player as well as 4 Pioneer speakers in it. Also volt, oil pressure and water temp gauges have been added to mimic the GTI cars as well as the classic snowflake wheels. The car is not an actual GTI, but has been GTI grill and badges. The seems to have very little rust, the underneath looks good as well as the shock towers as well, the car has a silver tailgate whereas the rest of the car is white. When I purchased it, the previous owner told me that after he drove it home from its last repair, it died as he pulled into the driveway. He tried to restart it, but it would only puff black smoke and thats all it will do now. Additionally the odometer shows around 74k but the previous owner said it didn't work. The previous owner said when it did run he got well over 50mpg. People on the VW websites have told me it could be anything from faulty glow plugs, bad injectors, low compression, wrong pump timing, sheared injection pump key or air in the fuel lines causing it to not start. I'm in the process of finishing school and paying for my house to be built so unfortunately I don't have the time or funds to work on this car. It appears that almost everything has been replaced at one time or another. This is a no reserve auction, so the high bidder can take it home. Please remember it doesn't run and is not a show car. I'm not looking for any tire kickers or trade offers, I'd like to see it go to someone who wants to appreciate a simple old diesel car and take advantage of high fuel economy. This car is sold as-is, if you need to ask your parents, wife or grandmother for money to buy this car, don't bid. If you have less than 5+ feedback, contact me first before you bid. Finally this car is located conveniently off I-81 and within 20 minutes of I-77 or Highway 460. I have a clear title as well. Again no tire kickers please. Good luck bidding. On Mar-01-11 at 05:12:31 PST, seller added the following information: I forgot to add that the car is located about 5 minutes off exit 98 on I-81 in Dublin, Va which is about 15 minutes from Blacksburg. Thanks.
