Vehicle Detail
This 1981 Honda Goldwing runs, starts instantly, has good tires, excellent exhaust, brakes work fine and is ready to ride. Everything on the bike works and it is totally street legal. Many of the parts are near new looking, but some other parts of the bike have imperfections you would expect in a bike of this age. This would be perfect for someone looking to do a restoration back to a stunning bike, because of the shape it's in now, it's a real head turner and gets lot's of compliments from the guys in the neighborhood. Personally, I would give it a pro tune up at the Honda dealership in the spring and ride it as is. It has sat, un ridden most of it's life, so carb cleaning, air fliter, adjust clutch cables, change fluids etc. would be standard types of things a buyer would do. I would do it myself, but am too busy. Not rocket science. The bike has had any major repairs and is probably overdue for it's 20,000 mile maintainance and adjustments. Like I said, the bike has hardly been ridden, over the years, so it could have the original air filter, for all I know. Zero smoking and no oil leaks at all, or fluid leaks of any type. Your basic "unusually clean" motor as well. People will think you repainted the motor, put it that way. But, it's just the way it looks, naturally. There is slight flaking on the two valve cover chrome and cover for the timing belts, but nothing to fret about. Otherwise, the motor is so clean, it looks restored, but it's not. The chrome lights on the front work on a toggle in the fairing and are great in areas where you might hit a deer. Those lights give off a huge amount of light, believe me. There are no known problems, I just drove this bike on a 200 miles trip and it was fine. No shaking, wobbling, or anything else. I added some air to the fork, because it seemed low and it rode like a couch, down the highway. The bike is basically just washed in the photo and I never even bothered to steel wool any of the chrome, which you can see is in very nice shape. If this does not sell, I will detail this myself, take better pictures and sell this for more in the spring. This is just a quick washing, with no wax or polishing, so you can see the potential, if you spend a weekend detailing this bike. The shocks for instance, would look brank new with a half hour of steel wooling and even have the original stickers which are perfect. One screw for the seat is missing and needs to be picked up at the dealership. There is a small crack on the inside of the fairing you hardly notice, but I would take it apart and fix it.There are a few spots on the frame, I would sand and use some touch up paint on. Lot's of little stupid things like that, but no dents or dings anywhere. There are no dents, or anything other than light normal wear and tear, on any chrome part. I would say all chrome, aside from needing some light steel wooling, is above average. Trying to discribe a used bike and please everyone is impossible, so I took a bunch of pictures with a very expensice camera, so they should be pretty self explanatory. It looks great to me, but please... if you are one of the Ebay types who will moan and groan over the tiniest little nick or imperfection, do not bid. Let this go to someone who will appreciate the bike and understand what this is and what they are doing. I hate to say it, but you do get some real wackos trying to sell used items on Ebay, so you have been warned. This is a nice, used, older bike, not a brand new bike. Go to the Honda dealership if that's what you are looking for. The bike is sold as is and will make someone who knows what they are doing, a happy buyer. I have the title in hand and you handle shipping. I will help out in any reasonable way I can. From what I can tell, all of the original decals are stickers are still on the bike, as seen in the photos. Good luck finding a 1981 with decals like these. Like I said, this is not a museum peice, but a shop or hobbyist who picks this up, could bring this back to totally original shape, with some basic common sense and some elbow grease. Maybe it's me, but I find restoring a bike like this easy and enjoyable, but that's just me. Bike could stand a basic tuneup, but all the cables work fine and are in good shape. It has hardly been riden over the past few years, but still runs good when started and riden. Shifting through the gears works normally. It's starts right up, the choke works normally and the bike never stalls. I have the lower fairings for the front, but one has a slight crack near where it bolts on. I was going to fix it, or get a new one on Ebay. The side covers look like they came out of a museum, but the tank cover is a different story, because the last owner took that little chrome piece off. You can find those for 30 dollars on Ebay, from time to time. There are no bags or trunk. So, to sum it up, it's not a museum piece, looks very presentable, could use a basic tune up, oil change and plugs and need a little tlc on the body here and there and a good detailing. I mean, how bad can it be. It's got 26,000 miles and has always been adult owned. I don't know what else to say. It's an 81 that is not perfect, but better than most I see on Ebay. I think this is a good buy at this "Buy it now"price for a bike of this type, but who knows. Again, if nobody grabs it, I will polish it up and get more for it in May, or June. No great loss, because I will ride it around and save gas money. Not to mention, you get a lot of looks from the ladies on this bike. The bike is located on a main commercial road in Seattle, so having a freight company get this should be a breeze. I don't have any video of the bike running, but if a serious buyer really needs to hear it, you can call me and hear it over the phone. I know it sounds crazy, but its better than nothing. I will speak briefly to serious buyers for any other reason. Contact me for phone number. Pretty basic auction here, though. On Jan-31-11 at 16:52:03 PST, seller added the following information: Monday Update - Holy smokes.... I just added some high octane gas, topped off the tank, and took this for a spin. My God, talk about power. It practically jolted me off the seat. Not a kids bike, for sure. A full tune up and this thing will be a monster. Runs great! Runs super quiet for the about of power this 1100cc cranks out.On Jan-31-11 at 17:11:38 PST, seller added the following information: Monday - By the way, the back rest in back on the bike. I took it off to polish it. See new pics I took after a ride around the neighborhood, earlier. The backrest and chrome is so clean, I was almost tempted to sell it separately, but I will let it go with this bike. I could easily get $200 just for that part. It literally looks like a brand new reproduction, but it's original. I polished up the shocks and a bunch of other chrome parts. Many of the parts, now look like they just came out of the box. I mean, this bike is not mint, but if I wanted to, I could make the body look like new, with not much effort. You can tell this is a low mile bike, when you get in there and start polishing things. Unreal... Almost too nice too sell, now that I look at it and ride it. You see a scratch, or some dirt here and there, but some parts of this bike look like the day this came out of the factory. The only bodywork I see on the whole bike, is the lower fairing in the front need to be put back on and the fairing is not perfect, but could be repaired easily, if you knew what you were doing and have a weekend for a little project. It's on the inside, on the black plastic, down lower where its not very noticeable. I would refiberglass it from behind and touch of the paint with rattle can black trim paint, but I am not here to tell you how to fix a fairing. Or, just leave it as is. It looks good enough to me. Otherwise, you could make the frame look new with some touch up paint here and there. You should also buy that parcel rack that goes on the tank. Someone is selling one now on Ebay and has only one bid. Its selling for .99 cents, currently.
