Vehicle Detail

Re-listed for third time due to eBay losers. If you don't want it or can't pay for it, please don't waste your time or mine. For those of you lacking in the manly department, get your wife/mother/woman's permission BEFORE you bid please. Up for auction is my 1970 Mercury Cougar XR7 Coupe. This is a California - specification car, which means that it has the emissions controls in the trunk and the charcoal canister under the hood. White with a white vinyl top, the car shows around 75,000 miles on the odometer and there’s no reason to think it’s gone around, but I cannot guarantee it. There is minimal rust on the car, but it is not perfect. There are a few bubbles under the vinyl top below the rear window, and a few in the doors and quarters. Trunk drop-offs and floors look good. The car has had one repaint, with overspray in various spots. It’s good enough for a better-than-average driver, which is what this car is. It has bumper strips on the body lines as seen in the pictures. Not my choice: that’s how it was when I got it. The driver’s door hinges and driver’s side hood hinge need to be replaced. The headlight covers creep up after the engine is switched off. There’s an easy fix to this: you can switch the direction of the vacuum motor. I just never got around to it, having driven the car less than 500 miles in the last five years. The interior is complete, and has the console. The interior sail panels with the courtesy lights will need to be replaced or recovered, and the rear package shelf needs to be replaced also. This car has the unusual factory hound’s-tooth cloth inserts to the XR-7 interior. They make it much more comfortable to sit in on a warm day. The door panels are not cut for speakers and look good. No tears in the upholstery. The clock and rim-blow horn do not work, but all the gauges do, including the warning lights. The car is equipped with power steering, tilt steering wheel, air conditioning, and power front disc brakes. The engine is the 351 Cleveland 2 barrel with an automatic transmission. The best thing about this car is how it runs: I’ve owned many 1969 and 1970 Cougars over the years, and this one runs, drives, and stays in tune better than nearly every other one I have had. Fires up strong every time, even after sitting for months. This is a well-optioned car ready to drive and enjoy. Included in the auction are the four factory 14” style steel wheels seen in the pictures. They are in primer, but will need refinishing as some surface rust has starteed. A bag of the stainless steel inserts for them come with the car as well. There is no spare or jack. These are all the pictures I have. Underside is solid, much like the rest of the car. I'm selling because I have several of these cars, and it is time to trim back a bit. Car is located near Los Altos, California. Sold as-is, where-is without warranty express or implied. Make sure you want it and can pay for it before you bid. Please email me with questions not answered by the description, and we’ll set up a time for you to look at the car. I have a clear title in my name. A $500 deposit by Paypal required immediately at auction close; the balance in cash when the car is picked up. Wire transfers and cashier’s checks welcome, but the car goes nowhere until the money is in my account. Sorry about that, but there’s too many scam artists out there with excellent forged checks. Good luck and happy bidding!
