Vehicle Detail

Up for bid is a beautiful solid 1962 Chevrolet Impala SS 409 clone 4 speed. This was in a private collection and has been cleaned up and made road-worthy again. I want to be clear that this car is not being presented as an original SS 409 car. From what I can tell from decoding the VIN, this is an original V8 car, but it doesn't decode out to be a true SS, and the 409 engine has a casting number that shows it as a '65, and was transplanted at some period in it's life. So, on to the description: - 409/409hp engine with dual carter AFB carbs (not original, but later model AFB style Edelbrock bodies). - Mallory Unilite electronic distributor (No more points to fiddle with) - 4 speed transmission, looks to be a T-10 - 4.56:1 ratio rear-end, was setup as a period street racer - Sun Tachometer sending unit on fenderwell (looks to be stock, probably a 327 car originally) The Sun tach in the interior is a later model that does not use the original sender. - Power steering - seems to have a small leak from the ram, but haven't been able to pinpoint the exact location. - Manual drum brakes - 14" American racing Torque Thrust wheels with good tires.- More photos available at http://zekesgarage.com/gallery/index.php/1962-Impala -The car is in excellent condition with no rust in the fenders, rockers, wheel wells or floor pans. There are only a couple small spots in the trunk due to the liner holding moisture, but it is a very small area (shown in the pictures). -The black paint is in good condition and is still very glossy, but has a few chipped places around the car, as it was a weekend driver. -The red crushed velour interior is in very good shape, with no visible tears or wear throughout the car. - All the chrome is present and in very good condition, the only questionable piece is the front grille which is bent in an odd manner, but still looks great. - There is a center console, but I've been told that it is out of a '65. - The car starts, runs and drives very smooth, the clutch and shifter feel great, and the brakes bring this beast to a nice easy stop. - The electrical charging system has been upgraded to an alternator, and all lights, and gauges work as they should. - Even the parking brake works! Ok, here are the things that aren't quite right... - The power steering bracket is not the correct one for a 409. I am trying to source one and install it before the car is sold, but they are difficult to find. Power steering works fine as is... it just doesn't look very good.- The power steering ram seems to have a small leak, maybe about a drop a day where it sits. - The parking brake release handle snapped off. Trying to source one of those as well. You can still release the parking brake, you just have to pull the shaft of the lever. - The heater and blower and windshield wipers are not working, but may be corrected before it sells. - The original radio is in it, but is not hooked up, and I have not verified if it still works. Conclusion: This is a very solid unmolested car. It looks to have no crash damage, or rust repair done it it ever. You could cruise around in this as it sits, or do a few things and make it a real show car or nostalgic racer. Everything is there, it's up to you to decide on how you want to use it. Payment Requirements.... Very Important, Please Read... - I require a $500.00 NON-REFUNDABLE deposit VIA PayPal after the auction ends. This means that if you decide after paying the deposit that you don't want the car, can't come up with financing, or your wife/girlfriend/buzzkill partner says you can't have it... You LOSE the deposit. I hate to make it this way, but some folks don't want to honor their commitments. - I require CASH for the remaining payment upon pickup of the vehicle. No checks, no Money Orders or any other suspicious types of currency. We might be able to work out a bank transfer, but let me know before you bid. Thanks for looking!
