Vehicle Detail
No reserve!!! This is a genuine 1970 GTO that needs restoration and a loving home. I have owned this car since 1974; it was a daily driver for nearly 20 years. It has been in storage for the last 12 years; the differential started making a little whine so I took it off the road with the intention of fixing it up when I had more time. You know how that goes…. The car was running when it went into storage. I'm sure it could be made to run again with fluid, gas, belt, and hose changes. New wheels/tires will also be required as these are not the right size for the car; they were temporary just to move the car into the driveway. Overall: Almost 300,000 miles (it's been a GOOD car!). Originally an Arizona car, no California smog equipment or requirements! Engine: 400ci, rebuilt at 167,000 miles, bored .030 over, ran strong; not original carb or distributor, all else is original. Exhaust system is now shot. Transmission: Turbo 400, not the original, so cannot guarantee numbers matching; works well. Output shaft seal is probably shot after sitting so long. Differential: 10-bolt posi, 3.08 gears. Never opened, just checked oil level. Accessories: A/C was working until compressor froze just before it was stored; original radio and 8-track are long gone; wood steering wheel. Body: Not bad for original; small accident bent the front bumper - body shop said it could be straightened, but I have a replacement bumper as well that goes with the car; hood was not damaged in accident; small areas of rust on lower quarter panels and around rear window (typical); small amount of bondo in front left fender, no other body damage; light surface rust all around, no holes in floor or trunk; rear bumper rusty but restorable, taillight lenses not broken last time I looked; all original chrome trim is on car except wheel wells, and I think I can find those; vinyl top is old and brittle; glass is all intact. Outside mirror on driver's side is broken. Car was originally gold-colored, I don't know the paint name. Interior: Complete but needs full restoration; seats are rebuildable; console is from '68 GTO with Hurst Dual Gate Shifter; speakers in doors and rear deck; dash cut for digital tach that no longer works; all dashboard controls are operational; A/C vents need replacement as some of the vanes are broken. The vinyl dash pad is cracked. Suspension: Minimal clearance around front wheels with these temporary wheels mounted, I would not drive it this way but it will roll just fine; front spindles replaced with spindles from '78 Firebird to correct factory suspension geometry error; front springs cut down half a coil; 1 1/8' front sway bar with stiff bushings, along with these other changes made the car handle REALLY well for an A-body car. It ran strong and was a blast to drive! The original spindles will go with the car. I have tried to accurately portray the condition of this vehicle, but it is possible that I missed something so I have to say this is an "as-is" sale. The car can be inspected by appointment only in San Jose, CA on Jan. 22 up until the time of auction close. If you would like to see it, please respond to this ad with a request for inspection and provide contact information; I will get in touch with you. Title is clear. Cash only, no checks accepted, no refunds. Buyer responsible for transportation. This car would make a great gift for yourself or someone you love! Thanks, Mike.
