Vehicle Detail

I purchased this car in 1991. It had 41,000 miles on it. It now has over 451,000 miles, but has finally come to the end of it's driving life. The body is rusting out underneath and my mechanic, who has taken care of it all these years tells me that it will be unsafe to drive within another year. It also has started leaking oil somewhere under the hood. Since the license plates need to be renewed next month, I've decided to sell it to someone who can use the parts even though I still drive it. It's a 1989 LX model. It has several items that were only equipped on the '88 and'89 LX, such as right and left powered mirrors which work, and intermittent wipers. It also has rear window wiper and washer, and heated rear window, a turtle-deck cover (although it is not in very good shape), a rare passenger side under-seat storage tray and rails under the passenger seat allowing it to slide in. The instrument cluster has a tachometer, and there is air conditioning. I replaced the compressor 2 years ago...I needed to recharge the system this past spring. It has a 5-speed manual transmission. It does not have the passive motorized safety harnesses but has the belt/harness combos that are manually buckled. There is considerable rust on the underside of the car and some on the body in front of the rear wheels. The headliner is in poor shape and would be unusable. The driver's seat also is very worn as is the driver's side seat-belt. It doesn't have the LX radio/cassette player. The radio quit about 10 years ago so I replaced it with a radio from an L model Festiva which lacks the cassette player. The replacement radio does not have the amber panel lights but has the green lights instead. I would like to see someone use this car to enhance their own Festiva. It's been the best built car I've owned in over 40 years and has provided me with many miles of inexpensive transportation.Over the past 19 years, the average cost of repairs and maintenance has been about $600/year and that includes a major body rework and paint job 10 years ago. I was going to spend $2000-$3000 with new paint and body work, recovering the driver's seat with new upholstery, and installing new rear wheel bearings until my mechanic convinced me to retire it. This is a NO RESERVE auction which I'm starting out at 99 cents.
