Vehicle Detail
NO RESERVE........Up for sale is my 1974 BMW tii. Original Texas car until I bought it 2 1/2 years ago from 3rd owner for $12K and had it shipped to NY where it has remained in my garage. I have driven it maybe a dozen times and put approximately 700 miles on it in those 2 1/2 years. I have stacks of service receipts going back to the 70's and ending over the past couple of years. I would assume the mileage depicted on the odometer is not original as I'm sure it's either gone around once or been swapped out over the years. The car is equipped with a 5 speed transmission, factory limited slip differential (LSD), factory close ratio steering box and A/C. The interior is in EXCELLENT condition other than the faded original carpet with a small tear. Front & rear seats are just about perfect as well as the headliner and instrument panel. There is not a single crack in the dash pad and the clock works perfectly. The door panel cards could use replacement but the vinyl covering is still very nice. Brand new tires and wheels, less than 500 miles. Upgraded 85 amp alternator, billstein shocks and recently replaced electric fuel pump. The body had a respray in the 80's and looks very nice. Not perfect, but very nice. As noted in the photos there are some areas that show evidence of rust bubbles appearing in a few of the common areas that afflict these 2002's. These areas include the lower corner edge of the rear windshield, lower right corner of the doors/fender and one small area by the reveal molding on the driver's side quarter panel. The weatherstripping is various areas is worn/dry and could use replacement. The floor pan, front & rear strut towers, rockers are all solid with no indication of rust. I have not seen any rust to any of the structural areas, just what I mentioned above. The transmission shifts with no issues at all, the clutch is solid and the engine shows no evidence of burning oil on acceleration or deceleration. Compression is solid across all cylinders, measured dry with readings of 160-170. Repair invoices show previous rebuild of Kugelfisher (fuel injection pump) as well as all injectors by noted expert JF Pro BMW. As no old car is perfect there are some areas that could use attention other than what was already mentioned. The driver's door window regulator is "iffy". It works but feels as if the gears are worn and will soon require attention. The cable controlling the heater is bent. The heat works but must be turned on/off manually. The car pulls on acceleration but not as strong as I would think it should and has a roll in the idle at times. I believe it needs someone with some 2002 experience to fiddle with the fuel injection adjustment and/or timing. The valves were recently adjusted and that resulted in an improvement but I believe a good 2002 tech could do wonders with this motor with minimal effort. As this was a Texas car A?C is very important. Prior owner spent over $2,500 (receipts available) restoring A/C yet it never really did much in my opinion so I removed A/C belt so not to drain power and affect mileage. I've tried to describe the car as accurately and honestly as possible. There are some cosmetic issues as noted but it is a very good looking 2002 tii that you would be proud to drive. This car has all of the tasteful upgrades that made a great car even better. Hard to find one with the Limited slip & close ratio box. More photos??? Ask and you shall receive. Be sure to provide an email address for me to send them to you. This car is offered for sale locally so it is quite possible the auction will end prior to it's scheduled 5 day run. I will not end the auction without money in hand. Ask any and all questions you may have and I will do my best to ansewr them quickly and accurately. NOW FOR THE RULES: This is a NO RESERVE AUCTION, if you are the high bidder you just bought the car. Don't bid for an opportunity to meet me (though I am a nice guy) or take the car for a test drive. Bid to own the car! As the disclaimer goes.....car is sold where is and as is. Transportation/shipping is on you, though I will assist with the logistics. Unless you and I specifically make other arrangements prior to the close of the auction the car must be picked up prior to 12/22/10 as I will be away after that for 2 weeks. A non-refundable $1000.00 deposit (electronic transfer preferred/cashiers check or cash works/Paypal acceptable) is due within 48 hours of auction closing and the balance is due within 5 days of auction closing (cash/electronic transfer/cashiers check). The car is currently stored in a private garage in Westchester County, NY just off Interstate 95. This location is very accessible for transporters. This is car is only being offered for sale within the lower 48 States. On Dec-14-10 at 05:19:31 PST, seller added the following information: Several inquiries to inspect the car have been submitted. I will do my best to accomodate this request but please understand this auction ends on Thursday, today is Tuesday, I work so the opportunity is extremely limited. If you are local please contact me through the listing and I will discuss this with you. Right now Wednesday is the only possibility as I will not end the auction on Thursday as that would not be fair to the other parties who are interested but not local. Another question raised was if I could "Certify" the car has not been in an accident. This car is 35+ years old. I have owned it for just about 3 years (3 years this March). I can "Certify " that it has not been involved since I owned it and can also say the prior owner owned it for 8 years and told me it was never involved in an accident during her period of ownership. That's the best I can do regarding that subject. 35 years is a long time. It's quite possible that at some point in time over those years it may been involved in accident. The car tracks well with no issues. I hope this additional info proves helpful!
