PLEASE READ FULLY AS A MAJOR PROBLEM WITH THE VAN IS DESCRIBED BELOW!!! This 1998 GMC Safari van with just over 100K miles is loaded with the SLE package and includes the following features and options: 4.3L Vortec V-6 3-speed+overdrive automatic transmission air conditioning 8-passenger seating power steering power brakes power windows power door locks, power mirrors power driver’s seat delay wipers rear window wiper/defroster tilt wheel cruise control overhead console with electronic compass and outside temperature indicator privacy glass running boards premium alloy wheels running boards tow package driver and passenger side air bags roof rack The van is aesthetically in great shape with a few minor dings and scrapes here and there, but no major damage or rust. The interior has a few stains mainly on the carpeting, but in general is in pretty good shape for a 12-year old vehicle. It has obviously been used, but not abused. Please see the pictures and make your own judgment about the condition, but I think it can certainly be rated at good to very good overall. The rear tires probably have half to one third tread life remaining. The front tires are nearing the end of their lifespan, but they did pass inspection, which is current through May of 2011. The transmission and the all-wheel drive system work as they should. HERE’S THE BAD NEWS: The van has a major internal engine problem (a significant rattle) and needs to be repaired or replaced. It starts and drives, but I would certainly not trust it enough to drive any distance. The van has been mostly sitting in my driveway for the past two years since the engine problem arose, but it has been started and moved around regularly. I recently drove it to the garage for inspection, which it passed after a few rusted brake lines were replaced, but I would definitely trust it for everyday use. Another minor issue that I am aware of is that there is a problem with one of the oxygen sensors, as the check engine light was on all the time until the bulb apparently burned out. My county currently does not require emissions testing, so that was not an issue for inspection. However, it may be an issue where you live, so I wanted to make sure I disclosed that detail. I certainly would have liked to have been able to fix the problem and continue driving the van. Unfortunately, I don’t have the facilities or the know-how to tackle the job myself, nor can I afford to pay somebody else to make the repairs. In the end, my loss is your gain, as I am offering the van up for auction to the highest bidder with no reserve. As you probably know, GM stopped making the Safari and Astro vans several years ago and these vehicles are getting harder and harder to find. Properly running, these vans are great vehicles with excellent resale value. They have an extremely comfortable and smooth ride. You are welcome to come inspect the van at any time before the auction ends and I would be happy to take any additional pictures of anything else you want to see in more detail. If you have any additional questions, please ask. If you would like to talk to me about the van, just email me your number and the best time to reach you and I will be happy to call you at your convenience. If you want a good laugh, ask me about why my (now former) mechanic chose not to make the repairs on the van as promised. (I guess I should very happy that I can indeed laugh about it now. At the time, it wasn’t very funny to me at all !) With the proper repairs, this van could serve someone for years to come. Take advantage of the opportunity to give this van a second chance. Whether you will be making the repairs yourself or paying somebody to make them for you, there is potential here for a truly great deal. As a bonus to the winning bidder, I will throw in a Hayne’s repair manual covering this model. Thank you for taking the time to read this listing and good luck bidding if you choose to do so.On Nov-28-10 at 03:08:54 PST, seller added the following information: PLEASE READ !!! I just realized that there is a significant mistake in the paragraph describing the engine problem. I meant to say "I recently drove it to the garage for inspection, which it passed after a few rusty brake lines were replaced, but I would definitely NOT trust it for everyday use." The engine problem is definitely something that needs immediate attention and I certainly did not mean to suggest otherwise. I sincerely apologize for the mistake. On a brighter note, I also forgot to mention that the van has remote keyless entry as one of its many features and options.
