Vehicle Detail
October of 1981. Vin# 5781. Turn the key and drive away. It needs nothing. I took it to a car show 2 weeks ago and parked next to a couple of 68 Camaros and a few corvettes. To my surprise no one noticed the Camaros or Vettes. This car is a head turner for sure. This Delorean was first titled in 1996 in St. Joe, Missouri. It was owned by a wealthy doctor who collected cars and stored them under his house in a 12 car garage. It sat in storage until 2008 when it was brought out and recieved new tires, a new battery, and some fuel treatments to get it running and looking good. The interior looks brand new. So it has either been taken extremely good care of or has been redone recently. It's in great condition that's for sure. Last year it received minor hail damage on the roof and hood. Brand new parts would be less than $2500.00 to replace the hood and T plate of the roof form Delorean Motor Company. The insurance company paid out nearly 30,000.00 for some reason, so it now has a Rebuilt title. I have speculated that they did not know how to get parts for the car to repair and that's why the totalled it. FYI: Parts are easy to order from Delorean.com. Mechanically, the car needs nothing. Engine starts everytime. Only has 13000 original miles on it. Transmission is a 5 speed manual, both are original to the car. This car is stock original. Has had most of the safety recalls performed and runs and drives great. No Rust anywhere on it. The body is straight and free from any wrecks or repairs. Cosmetically, the interior is near flawless and from 10 feet away so is the exterior. There are about 8 hail dings in the hood of the car and a 4-5 more on the roof that took me about 30 minutes to locate and photograph at the right angle. The passenger side also has a small dent behind the plastic trim. There is a crack in one of the luvers on the engine compartment. All glass looks to be original and is free from chips and cracks. The driver's side sun visor is broken and the power mirrors are not functional. The steering wheel leather is damaged and could stand to be replaced. (No power sterring takes an early toll on the wheel) If I have not mentioned it, you can assume it works, or feel free to contact me and I'll be happy to answer any questions. Heat and A/C both work great. The radio works and is the original. All turn signals and interior lights function properly with the exception of one overhead light is finicky. Headlights, breaklights, horn, windhsield wipers, power windows, power locks, and all the little thing that usually go wrong in a car that is 29 years old work perfectly. There is not a lot of work to be done on this car. It's a great Sunday drive and always gets a lot of attention. I'm selling because I am moving and can't afford to take it with me. At 17,500.00 this could be an investment you can enjoy right away and sell in a dozen or so years to put a down payment on a house. Or keep it and hand it down to a deserving heir. I've never regreted buying this Delorean, but I'm sure I'll regret selling it. I'll help arrange shipping but I will not pay for it. I recommend Uship.com as a starting point for reasonable shipping costs with reviews on shippers. I am also Selling locally and reserve the right to end the auction early. On Nov-01-10 at 22:57:34 PDT, seller added the following information:Note about Parts: Even though production of these cars ended nearly three decades ago parts are very easily obtained through The Delorean Company (yes the company still exists and is located in Humble, Texas...a far departure from the company’s Belfast, Ireland origins). Parts are relatively inexpensive and arrive surprisingly quickly so there is no concern of parts being obsolete, practically every part you will ever need for this car is a single phone call or click away.
