Vehicle Detail

HELLO STUDEBAKER COLLECTORS and COLLECTORS OF VERY RARE CONVERTIBLES! This is an extremely rare car, only a few left in existance! All Studebaker convertibles are rare to begin with, you may on rare occasion find the Champion (there has been just one on lately, a very nice red 1947, fairly priced in the $20,000+). From research the books show that only about 1 in 10 Studebaker convertibles produced were the longer wheel base, higher level " Commander series" only a couple of hundred Commander convertibles were made. So, only a few of these cars exist. If you look for rare, this Studebaker is rare! This Commander convertible has come out from long storage just a few months ago, sitting since about the 1960's. It came from Alabama. I paid a mechanic to get it running, oil change, tuneup, and to do the brakes. I have driven it around the neighborhood a few times and it runs ok , stops well enough to drive around locally. I Just ran the car today Friday Oct.8th. It is very smooth and quiet at idle, when you rev it- it does make a slight tap noise after it was warmed up and only if you have your head under the hood, but not really noticable and sounds pretty normal/quiet with the hood closed, and may improve as car is run more after sitting for 40+ years. With the hood closed it is quiet overall. Exhaust needs to be done, although it is surprisingly not loud! It runs smooth overall and it shifted well when driving it around the area. I was likely the first to drive it in 40 years or so. Dash guage SHOWS THAT IT HAS GREAT 50-60 lbs.OIL PRESSURE, AND ALL THE GUAGES WORK! Lights work! Has a spotlight! UPDATE- Mon.Oct.11th : I PUT THE TOP DOWN AND DROVE THE CAR A COUPLE OF MILES TONIGHT TO A RENTAL GARAGE, RAN WELL,SHIFTED WELL AND DROVE FINE! SOUNDED WELL! LIGHTS WORKING! IT WAS GREAT TO FINALLY TAKE IT FOR A "LONGER" DRIVE! It is very solid and straight as you can see , but ofcourse has many cosmetic flaws and has rust underneath from sitting for about 40 years and you would want to restore it and rechrome everything(stainless is nice), but if you're not too critical, then it looks "good enough" to drive around to the local shows and play with as it is. Very nice straight body, nice carpet inside & in trunk, interior looks nice (I suspect that seats were probably redone in the 1960's),etc. Top may be saveable if you fix 2 small seam stitching seperations and repair the back window panel, it goes up & down by hand now, but I found on ebay & bought an NOS top motor still in the box(included) . I have, thank goodness...the irreplaceable rear split window (glass & chrome) which "makes the whole car" when installed, that split rear window makes a great look, it adds to that bizarre design! I have the original OWNERS MANUAL & SHOP MANUAL AND THE ORIGINAL 1948 SALES LITERATURE! I have a few extra parts such as a nos fuel pump( mechanic put a new electric fuel pump in); a nos convertible top motor ( a very lucky find on ebay a few months ago), a beautiful rear trunk handle unit with excellent chrome, and some more parts in a box in trunk. I bought the car in just 2 minutes when I saw it, because it is so rare and I love all of the 1940's & 1950's convertibles, they are always valuable and better investments. When it comes to RARE, this is about as hard to find as it gets, I checked a collector book and only a few hundred Commander convertibles were made- now there are only a few of these left in existance! I am pricing it fairly to make sure that it is sold. I know it would be at least $30,000-$50,000 when restored (This one needs restoration). Yes, you can run around with it for now as you restore it, or just play with it and restore it later. I ofcourse sell it AS-IS, WHERE IS, it is 63 years old and I do recommend that you ask any questions that you may have and do come to see it or send someone if you can't come in person. I have put 48 large photos so that you get a good taste of the car, but they always look better in the pictures. BUT...it is certainly a great looking car by design and very unusual with it's weird sloping back, it was quite bizarre compared to the other makes of 1947,1948,& 1949. Nothing else looked like a Studebaker, and the Commander was their better, longer wheel base, longer hood, more trim, "top-of-the-line" model! If you would like this convertible PLEASE MAKE ME A FAIR, REASONABLE OFFER AND IT'S YOURS! Or... Do the Buy-It-Now and it will be yours NOW without the risk of losing it to a higher offer. I am pricing it so that it is a safe and very good buy for you, based on my good find. I have 100% positive feedback and about 12 years on ebay. Well, that's all I can think of for now. THANK YOU!
